G'day to all

I bought the origin story as soon as it hit the stands here and enjoyed it enough but months later I have people telling me that the other boy in the comic is Sabretooth even though he is not called that in the comic ( or victor ) and even though another comic which came out after the origin story called " the end " had the character called dog in it which is clearly not victor people are still telling me that victor and logan are brothers because it said so in the origin comics.

I've had heated discussions about this with people that absolutely believe that dog is Sabretooth and that even though he was not called Sabretooth or victor that the writers implied it was Sabretooth. I ask these people where? On which page does it imply this to any degree and of course that doesn't go down well either as they can't find what page it implies it either.

Telling me that Logan and Victor are brothers seemed to be a bad joke but I could not get these people to show me where their proof was. I can not see it in the origin storyline. And when the Wolverine movie came out ( petoohey ) that just made matters worse.

Can anybody here shed light on this subject?

Originally Chris Calmount intended Sabretooth to be Wolverine's father (see Here for full details of that slightly strange idea)). This was later ignored (though Creed himself may believe it) and completely rejected by a SHIELD blood test in Wolverine 42.

However, with the publishing of Origins (and after people had realised that Dog wasn't going to be Logan), people started commenting on the simlarities between Dog and Sabretooth. Paul Jerkin's has specifically stated that he didn't intend Dog to be sabretooth, though the resemblence was delibrate (in the same way Rose looks like Jean Grey).

When Wolverine Origin movie came out with Sabretooth in the role of Dog at the begining of the film and as Wolverine's brother, some people got confused.
Hope that's helpful.

P.S. The guy in Wolverine The End wasn't Dog I don't think, but John Howlett Jnr, Wolverine's older brother. There was a lot of debate about whether he'd be Romulus, but Daniel Way was writing him, so he went a different way.

Cat, thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :GZ: It is so good to hear an informed answer :)

As for Wolverine number 42 I do recall "though Creed himself may believe it" but I put it down to possibly the multiple kinds of brain washing they went through in the weapon X project. A possible scenario where Logan and Victor were brainwashed into thinking they were father and son at some stage of the weapon X training/missions.

With practically EVERYBODY around me saying that Logan and Victor are brothers because of things only they could see in the origin story I was starting to think I was alone in this train of thought :D

I blame the X-Men Origins movie for people thinking that Wolverine and Sabretooth are brothers. That is pretty much what fans of the movie think, if they have never read the actual comic books the story is based on. Until another movie is released that clears up this misunderstanding, we probably will keep having to inform new fans that Sabretooth and Wolverine aren't related.

Plays Logan on TV!
Yeah. For a long time, the bane of my existence was "movie experts". Those folks who saw X-Men and were suddenly experts on everything Wolverine, and "Oh, I don't really read comics. Those are kind of juvenile.". Got my nerd rage going hard core.

Me too, I think the writers need to clear the whole thing up because John Jr., Dog, Sabretooth, and Romulus all look and act too similar for my liking. I mean come on stop using the same old template because it is getting boring.

I wish I had found this website when the wolverine movie came out. I was in the minority big time when I kept saying that they are not related in the comics. :) Thank you all for your sanity and reason :D

Slightly off topic but...

I am a little sad they are bringing Sabretooth back.

Perhaps if Jeph Loeb wasn't bringing him back I wouldn't care as much.

It was only a matter of time. Since they broke the rule of 'Only Bucky stays dead' I don't see anyone lying in the ground for two long.

Well expect for Jean these days. She's been dead longer then at any other time and they just keep teasing it and then pulling the rug out from the Jean fans.

Uncle Ben still is (I think, I missed Bucky coming back).

I'm quite looking forward to having Sabretooth back. He's an interesting villian, and as I've said else where, I love his "Only he gets to hurt Logan" attitude.
