The crew were sat in the Blackbird as it hovered in the air. Hank calculated for the cure to spread across the earth in a rapid and successful manner, it had to be done here. They drew straws, and came out with a roster. Scott Summers, the man who used by death ,was now somewhat more in control of himself and was strapped to the chair. Out of the all the Horsemen of Apocalypse, he willingly signed up to serve. Now thanks to Xavier, he saw the flaws of his ways and joined in the straw pulling. Logan sat next to him and kept a close watch on all times, Scott was back in control yes, but that didn’t mean Logan would slip up. Logan was there to, since he felt his healing factor may somehow be able to bring him back after the cure was spread. He didn’t believe it would though, but he would be damned if he would let any of the kids take it. Bishop told him about his future self, how he was a insane old man who spend his days fighting sentinels and bantered with his dead old team mates during those fights. In a small moment of clarity, the old logan gave Bishop the antidote and send him off to Minute Man, who would take him to Westchester. Bishop was there to, as a child of the future he lived through the fear and horror of a world ruled by machines. He had a little sister back home and wished for her to have a better future. If he had to sacrifice himself for that future, so be it. Colossus also stepped up to the plate. He was loyal to the X-men, and his sister to was an mutant. To save her life at the cost of his own was a small cost to pay. He felt during his team with the X-men, he didn’t contribute enough. At least now, he felt like he was actually doing something useful. Minute Man, the George Gargan of the future, was the last one there. He was not a mutant, but he was there when the virus started and he would be there where it would die. It cost him his friends, his family and his life. A shade of the time manipulating jester remained after decades of war and fear. Before they left, he pulled in his younger self and Abigail close and whispered.” Take care of each other.” His younger self nodded and held his older self as did Abigail. “I’m proud of you.” She smiled and kissed him on his cheek. The old man smiled as he strayed hers and stepped into the X-jet. Now was the moment of truth. 20 000 feet below, their friends already infected with the virus were dying, and soon that would spread all over the world. A war between human and man would erupt from it, and Magneto would become the ruler of a island full of lepers and desperate who in his final hour would doom both mutantkind and mankind by the human’s newest toys. Hank punched in the keys before he sighed deeply.” Here we are...” “Showtime.” Minute Man said as he took out the vial of the cure and four straws.” Whatever happens here today, no-one outside of this jet and the mansion will know of it. The world will be saved at the cost of one of our own.” The old man smiled sadly. “You will be mourned, and honoured.” “Fer Christ sake, Gargan..” Logan grumbled.” Just give us the damn straws.” George nodded and held out his hand. Scott, Logan, Peter and Bishop all drew them. One by one they held out their hands...and revealed Scott drew the shortest. Summers sighed and nodded.” It’s alright.” He said.” It’s my fault in the first place.” “Look, kid...Summers.” Logan placed his hand on Scott.” It aint your fault. I know how it feels like to lose someone you care and go a bit screwy...i can-“ “No, Logan...it has to be me. You lead the X-men, and I have a debt to pay.” Cyclops smiled. Logan nodded and took the cure off George and gave it to the former leader of the X-men. Scott took out a syringe and jabbed it in the vial. He withdrew the liquid into the syringe before he placed it at his veins.” I never did like needles...” he chuckled nervously. “Scott...” Hank said. “It’s fine, old friend.” Scott smiled.” You make sure Bobby doesn’t do anything stupid, alright?” “A futile effort knowing young Robert..” Hank chuckled.” I will.” “Thank you, tovarsch.” Peter nodded.” All is forgiven.” “Your saving a load of people’s lives, man.” Bishop said.” You’re an X-men, through and through.” “Give ‘em hell, Summers.” Logan smiled weakly. Scott nodded and placed te tip of the needle on his arm. He closed his eyes and pushed it in...but he stopped. “I cant let you do that Scott.” A familiar voice said. “Charles?” Scott looked up and saw Xavier in his wheelchair come over.” How-“ “I’m sorry, but I told your minds I was not here.” He said as he took the syringe of Scott. “Professor, what are you doing?!” Cyclops looked around the room, but no-one moved. “I’m making sure you get your second chance.” Xavier smiled.” Scott, what happened to Jean was not your fault...and she never would’ve wanted you to die, not now.” “But professor-!” Charles held up his hand.” Enough X-men died for my dreams, Scott. Thunderbird, Jean...people are dying because of me. I have faith in you Scott, I have faith that you will lead the X-men and mutantkind into a bright future.” “But look at me.” He motioned his head to his body, which still showed the modifications made by Apocalypse.” I made a mistake-“ “We all make mistakes Scott, it’s how we deal with them and learn from them we grow into better people.” He smiled and pulled up his sleeve.” I have full faith in you Scott...I know I’ll be proud.” “Professor, don’t!” Charles closed his eyes and jabbed the cure into his veins. His essence flared up as his control over the others seized. All looked amazed and confused when they saw Xavier appear in their midst. “Hank!” Scott shouted.” Open the bay door, now!” Hank shook from the confused and did as told. Green air came from Xavier’s orifices as he cried out in pain. Before anyone could react he threw himself off his chair and out of the X-jet. From above they saw the green smoke fly across all different winds, all over the world. “I’m proud of you.” A mental message said.” I’m proud of you, my X-men...farewell.” Back in Westchester, Cat suddenly sat up and gasped for air. “Cat?” Maverick held on to her as she clutched to him.” Your alright!” “Xavier...” she gasped.” That son of a bitch did it...” The other former riders of Apocalypse also gasped and set up as the other X-men and Echo came over to their aid. Storm from the future smiled.” And so, it is over...” “How do you mean, ‘Ro?” Liam asked. But when he turned around, she was gone. Back on the X-jet, George smiled as he looked at his fading hand.” It’s over...” he closed his eyes.” Finally it is over....Abigail, mon tresor, my fils..i’m coming home.” He smiled one last time a the X-men before he to, faded away. “Holy shit...” Bishop muttered and looked at himself, but saw he didn’t fade.” I’m not fading, guys...” “Isn’t that a good thing?” Peter asked. “I..dont know...” Bishop replied. Scott watched the rest of the green air disappear and Logan came over. “You alright there, kid?” he asked. “I’m fine, Logan...” Scott replied as he saw the modifications disappear off his skin.” Better then I used to be.” A few days later, at the mansion’s back garden a memorial was placed for Charles Xavier. They did not find his body after hours of searching, so a tombstone made due. A single brazier stood in front of it. Next to it was Scott Summers in a black attire. “Charles Xavier was more then just a mentor.” He said.” He was more then just a shepherd, or a friend...he was our Professor X. He guided us through the dark, found us when we needed guidance and gave us a goal.” He oversaw the large assembly. The X-men and Echo were there, as were Nick Fury and some members of SHIELD. Oddly enough, Captain America of the Avengers was there as well, next to Spider-man and Doctor Conners. Bishop was there as well, although he looked a tad silly in the suit borrowed from the professor’s closet. Moira Mactaggert sat next to George and Abigail as both held each other’s hands. Liam and Monique were sat behind them as both tried to stop the tears. Cat and Maverick were in the back in a official military burial attire next to the other members of Echo, their faces neutral. Logan was there to as he folded his arms and leaned on the wall. There was a man with a large fedora hat in a trenchcoat in the back. “I know in our career path, some of us die to save the planet. The professor did that as well, and we will honour him for it. He dreamed of a better future where humans and mutants live together in peace. Now, I see both humans and mutants attend his funeral. He would’ve been honoured and so glad to see you all like this.” Scott smiled weakly. He paused a moment to gather himself.” Before he died, he said that he had faith in me and his X-men. Charles died for a brighter future, a future we all deserve. He asked me to lead the X-men into the future...and I will. I...” he took out a piece of paper.” I found a list of names of young mutants nearby, young mutants who can use some light in the darkness. That is why, starting next week I’ll begin gathering students and turn this mansion into a school for gifted youngsters once more.” The crowd mumbled amongst themselves. “I know this is a big step, but I hope we all can move forward, together. We will help the next generation like Xavier helped us. Some of us are experts in some fields, and if they like they can teach here.” Some of the X-men smiled and nodded, much to Scott’s joy. “Now, I think it is only fitting we have a light to guide us through the dark, a light the professor gave us.” He moved to the brazier and lifted his sunglasses. A small burst from his optic blast hit the brazier directly, which made a huge flame erupt from it. The crowd gasped at the sight, then clapped and cheered with joy. The man in the trenchcoat walked off. Logan stiffened and sniffed, before he grunted and walked away. Maverick saw him leave and tried to pursuit, but Cat took his arm and shook her head. The man looked puzzled, but nodded in agreement and stood next to her as one by on the attendants spoke some words on the professor from their own perspectives. The man in a large trenchcoat walked away as Logan caught up to him. “ Leaving so soon, Magneto?” Logan asked. The man turned around as he took off his hat.” Ah Wolverine, I wondered when you would come after me.” “Came to say your respects to the old man?” “Charles was my friends for decades Wolverine, your loss is just the same as my loss.” “Why don’t you go up there and speak a few words then?” Logan took out a cigar. Before he could react, his lighter floated toward the cigar and lit it. “Thanks.” Logan said as he took the lighted. Eric nodded.” Everything I wanted to tell Charles has been said, and I don’t think a funeral is holy enough for SHIELD and ECHO to stop coming after me.” “Your going to continue your brotherhood then?” “You fought off one threat Wolverine, and although your fearless leader is up to the task to lead Charles’ precious X-men...this has changed nothing. Humans still fear us and those sentinels Bishop talked about will still come. The question now...is when. But rest assured, I will be there to defend mutantkind.” He nodded and walked off into the distance as he slipped his hat back on. “As will the X-men, bub.” Logan retorted. The End. |

Nice, bro. Nice. I can't think of a better way to end the chapter. In all honesty, it feels sort of...right. Sort of final. Like maybe it's time to move on from the constant action we've been dealing with, keeping us away from the school. Perhaps it's time to bring in some fresh talent and let our characters take a break, or at least a breath. Not sure how that'll affect our E.C.H.O. friends, though. |

We could still have those Savage Lands adventures though ^^ Maybe we can downsize the team a bit, some are teachers and there in case the school gets attacked and the others go off on missions. |

Indeed. I can't think of a better way to throw new characters together than to dump them in the Savage Land. |

I think it might be time for ECHO to go home, at least for a bit. The EU has it's own problems, and they've been away for a long time. Basicallly, I admit I'm going to write a filler and leave starting the Savage Land to Loganactor |

*falls over laughing* That's possibly the best thing I've heard, ever. USA: "What? We can borrow heroes? Have ALL the heroes!" EU: "Erm..." USA: "NOM HEROES!!! NOM NOM NOM!!!!" EU: *sigh* "They're at it again..." Edited by LoganActor, Oct 3 2011, 01:04 PM.
