I just finished reading Wolverine #2 for the new run, and thought I'd open a thread for discussion. There's no area for this new ongoing, but I figured it fit in best with the other two un-adjectived Wolverine series. Beware: there be SPOILERS. I'm just wondering what you guys are thinking about this arc. The idea intrigues me. Definitely pushing Wolverine emotionally and physically that he hasn't been in a good long while. I do think it would have been very interesting to see the affect of his possession in continuity (instead of him being a vamp, fighting in the future with the avengers, etc, etc), but that's another debate, I suppose. I mean, think of the last time Wolverine was brainwashed and not himself--the world freaked out. You'd think this would be another big deal, but like I said--another thread. Some of my thoughts: 1. Puck's in Hell. Same with Mariko. Okay, it's said that Mariko was the head of a crime family, but she had good intentions and was doing her best to straighten up. So now I'm wondering . . . how good does one *have* to be to be tossed into hell? Just one slip-up and your stuck? Hm. 2. Goes with 1. Even if Wolverine escapes, there is no way he's going to really be able to even partially get over Hell so long as Mariko remains stuck in there. That means that there's got to be a way for him (and Puck, by the sound of a plan we haven't heard completely yet) to escape. And Wolverine has a body to go back to (more or less), but with Puck and Mariko . . . do you think they're going to keep them dead? And could they escape hell just to walk nicely into heaven, or what? Or are we looking at a potential resurrection story? If so, I hope they have a mass break-out and bring back a whole slew of interesting Wolverine characters that they've killed off. Even if that is a bit lame, I would mind seeing Sabretooth, Omega Red, etc, etc, back on the scene. 3. Which leads to: Sabretooth has been broken. Definitely a powerful image to see him on that page, but I was expecting a more personal confrontation with Wolverine. Wondering if that's all we'll see of Sabes before this story ends. 4. Last but not least . . . any guesses about who that guy with Puck might be? I was thinking Wraith, just because of his recent death and the fact that he's not broken or whatever, but the whole wanting to talk to "the boy" makes me think of Thomas Logan, because of the fact that he does seem a bit reminiscent of Logan himself. But what in the world would he have to say to Wolverine? Just in closing, I did like having a glimpse of Amiko. It seems like ages since we've seen her, and it always kinda bugs me when characters just drop off the map. Anyway, thoughts? |

i'm actually very intrigued about this book..it's just that outside wolverine, x-23 and daken there seems to be no mention of this event at all. i think it would have been better if at least one avengers book and one x-men book would at least tie-in to this.. i was really surprised to see mariko there too, i mean..this knowledge will surely change wolverine forever, now every time he'll think about mariko he'll remember that she's in hell. I hope that it's not actually mariko and that it's a shape-shifting resident of hell.. maybe it's possible that sabretooth helps wolverine out in the end? seeing the fight in wolverine will rejuvenate him once again? ehh, corny but whatever.. |

I was also thinking that it's possible that this is *Wolverine's* hell, and so things happening there could be less real than it seems. I figure it could be that everyone has their own personal hell, and really . . . finding Mariko there and having her hurt him like that would fit in with Wolverine's worst possible scenario. So that's one possibility. |

I have no idea. Like I said, I'm wondering what the requirements of being hellbound are for this arc . . . .

Okay I have some inside knowledge from interviews and such so I will see about answering/clearing up a couple things. First of all, why is Puck in hell? Puck's powers came from the fact that he accidentally released an evil sorcerer and then used his own body to contain him. That is what halved his size and gave him his resilience. But hosting an evil entity willingly well you get to go to hell. Doesn't matter how good you are with the power, evil magic is a one way ticket. As to where he is, Wolverine is in the Christian idea of Hell. Dante's Inferno and all that. They specifically did not want to involve Mephisto or any of the Marvel Devil's so Aaron just made his own with his own take on the actual Devil. Keeps it cleaner from a continuity stand point. Mariko I can see since she did willingly advance criminal organizations and turn a blind eye to her family's doings. Although it certainly could be a ruse as well. I'm not certain about whether she's going to make it out or not, my guess is no since Aaron wouldn't want to complicate Logan's love life. Could be interesting though from a romance stand point. I expect we'll see more of Creed acting like himself. He doesn't break easily and should be pretty good at healing from it, especially with Logan providing incentive. |

One thing's for sure--this arc is interesting me a whole lot more than a lot have for a good long while. I hope this story lives up to its potential! Still no guesses on the mysterious shadowed figure? |

I didn't bother guessing because the idea is so broad that it's almost silly to do so. People that might be willing to help Logan (especially if it helps themselves, that are in hell and who he might not want to see.) Just to show what I mean, here's some examples: Former enemies. People like Deathstrike, Ogun and Lord Shingen could see Logan as a means of resurrection or (in Shingen's case) as helping family. There are plenty more examples but any number of Logan's enemies did not necessarily hate him enough to hold a grudge beyond the grave and most of them are dead. Former lovers who betrayed him: People like Silver Fox and Seraph stand tall here but there others going all the way back to Rose that might wonder about their welcome if he saw them. Family: His mother, Thomas Logan and even his grandfather are no doubt in hell and might want to help him. Blood being thicker then water and all of that. I doubt he'd want to see any of them. Former Friends: Semi-Team mates like Sentry or Cable could certainly wonder if Logan would want their help. After all Sentry went bad and Cable has a mixed history recently at least partially responsible for the loss of Logan's best friend. There are plenty of others from Team X, Alpha Flight and so on that he has a less then stellar history with. The list goes on and on. So far we don't have much to go on. But if you want a pure speculative guess, I'll go with Wildchild. Why? Well he was a hero and could use redemption after what Way did. He's recently dead. He definitely would not get a warm welcome from Logan after trying to kill him. And he has a connection to Puck via the old Alpha Flight days so the other man might trust him. |

Still . . . I do love speculation. It'll be fun to see who it ends up being.

That's why I did give you a guess there at the end.
