In another thread we are discussing Wolverine's costumes. Personally I think Logan's bright yellow and blue costume was probably chosen by the higher-ups at Department H. to make him look more like a super-hero. In my opinion this make sense because they were in the process of creating a government-funded super-hero team and a large part of it was all about public image and perception. I even remember that Shaman even complained about the silly look of his costume. This brought another question to my mind. Was Logan ever revealed to the Canadian public as a Canadian super hero during his time with Alpha Flight? I think that Logan left the team before they went public, in fact I think Alpha Flight did not go public until after Uncanny X-Men #121. Edited by Templedog, Oct 13 2010, 03:55 AM.

I don't think he ever went public with Alpha Flight, but he did fight the Hulk, and that sort of thing is hard to keep quiet |

From what I know the fight was very remote, and if we beleive Hulk Vs Wolverine I think only survivors of a Hulk-out would have seen him. |

I don't think he was ever made to go public. The team was still being formed when Logan left and Hudson had to take over as field leader. |

I think that Wolverine originally was intended to go public back then, but the primary two team members that would have gotten the spot-light would have been Vindicator and maybe Aurora for PR reasons.

Yeah, I am pretty sure Canadian Intelligence clamped down on the affair pretty quickly. Besides the only three witnesses were Paul Cartier, who was a Wendigo for most of the confrontation, Georges Baptiste, who got transformed into a Wendigo, and Marie Cartier, who went insane shortly afterwards. |

Keep in mind there was no Vindicator when Logan was on the team. He had the suit yes, but no experience and wasn't planning on trying to be a hero. He stepped up to fill in the void when Wolverine left. His first mission was the ill-fated one to capture him in Uncanny. (I believe he was Weapon Alpha at the time.) |

I am sorry if i did not explain what I meant fully. I believe that the original plan always had been to have a person in the Vindicator suit with the flag design so that they could a counter-part to Captain America. I agree with you it was never intended to be James Hudson in the suit and probably not meant to be code-named Vindicator either. I was just indicating that in the process of creating publicity for Alpha Flight Vindicator (whoever might have been in the suit), and Aurora probably would have been chosen first as "the faces of Alpha Flight". It makes perfect sense because Aurora would be the pretty face and Vindicator would be the patriotic symbol. That is also why the Vindicator/Guardian armor has almost always been present in almost every Canadian super-hero team. |

I do expect that there was meant to be some sort of symbolic/patriot type in the group, though not Hudson and not as the leader. Wolverine was meant to lead. He had the experience and toughness to pull it out. If I remember correctly Aurora was one of the first Alpha Flight types since Wolverine recruited her, but she was in the throes of her multiple personality disorder so hard to see her as someone they would tote heavily. I would pick Snowbird for that role. As a literal goddess she's beautiful and poised. |

I would imagine tat despite being beautiful Snowbird would have been too other-worldly to promote, so I still think that Aurora would have been put forth first. They would have just taken great care to conceal her mental problems. |
