Need Help; Becoming X Sequel Issues/Ideas

I've got the first chapter written for the Becoming X sequel, but I'm having trouble coming up with a title/name for the team. I'm thinking that I want to do an acronym, since the Marvel loves their acronyms. S.H.I.E.L.D., S.W.O.R.D., T.H.U.N.D.E.R., and such. Not only will it allow the team to be easily identified, but it'll allow them to sink into the public's consciousness, since a large portion of the American people can't seem to handle new concepts very easily. A small word is acceptable, but a multi word title for an organization who is new to the scene with a complicated thing going for them is too hard. The team is going to be a paramilitary operation, using powers and weapons, basically hunting down threats to mutant kind, no matter how big or small. However, they won't be on the side of angels. They'll make it clear that if you threaten, hurt, subjugate mutants, be it many or one, they will hunt you down and end your life, no bones about it. I'm thinking of them as a sort of vigilante terrorist group. The idea is to make things so horrific for anybody who threatens mutants that nobody will ever do it again. Graphic video of their work will be released via TV and the internet after their first mission, declaring their existence and purpose, and showing their willingness to torture those who persecute mutants. Obviously, this is a darker tale than The Ties That Bind or Becoming X. Anyway, I need your help to name my team! Cat, Gorvar, I'm looking at you here, though anyone is more than welcome to offer up their ideas. I'll integrate the character of your choice (Canon or Original) into the story at some point for the winning name. The two acronyms that have stuck in my head are: M.A.S.T.: Military Action Strike Team (Something about "Standing tall for those mutants who are beaten down") M.A.W.: Mutant Action War (Something about "We will find you, and we will swallow you whole") Thoughts? Ideas?

Secret Agent Posts: 866 Group: Members Member #58 Joined: March 17, 2009	If you're going for paramilitary, then MAW is probably the best one (the other sounds too offical for a viligante team). However, if you want the public to like them, I'd suggest something different. Mutant Action War might suggest something like Magneto to most people. Something like Mutant Power might be better, not only for it's historical links, but it suggests fighting an unjust oppessor and encouraging Mutants to stand up for themselves.

Posts: 1,112 Group: Members Member #96 Joined: October 23, 2009	I'm digging M.A.W., and was looking through my old stuff, and came across Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter (or G.R.A.W). I'm thinking that Mutant Advanced Warfare might not be a bad option. And I'm thinking that while their actual operations will be military and almost terroristic in nature, I want the videos released by the team to be a little more civilized. Not some ranting fanatic on screen declaring a holy war. I want it to be Liam, in uniform with full face mask, of course, sitting down, calmly explaining what's happening and what's going to happen. Sort of brings to mind one of those old 1950's government instructional videos, a speech by V (from V for Vendetta), mixed with a kind of modern day "Fireside chat" series. I can see it now..... Fade to Liam sitting in a large wingback chair next to a crackling fireplace, in a full battle uniform (the design for which will be posted shortly), full face mask, and a comfortable smoking jacket, holding a pipe. "Good evening, friends. I'm here to help explain what happened in Argentina this past weekend. You see, (crosses legs, folds hands) my friends and I are mutants, and to be honest, we're fighting a war. A mutant advanced war (text flashes across the bottom of the screen). We have been around for a while, and to be honest, we're tired of being discriminated against, hated, and feared for who we are. It's come time for us, and others like us, to stop trying to fit in with humanity, and simply exist. stands up, and begins walking around the room, which turns out to be a library "We're not going to put up with any sort of threat to mutants. Not anymore. If you threaten a mutant physically, emotionally, psychologically, economically, implicitly or overtly...we will hunt you down." gestures with pipe to old 1950's art deco style TV screen "Here we have some video footage of our exploits this past weekend. The people of Argentina were kind enough to host us for a little hunting expedition." Screen plays first person video taken from a mask mounted camera system, showing the view of Liam running through the halls of a building, letting off bursts from an M4 Carbine, killing several people, and then using his powers to literally wipe the floor with several opponents, hitting them so hard that they are torn apart by the concrete floor, leaving nothing but a bloody pile of flesh and bone. Camera turns, sees Pope slam a knife into the chin of an adversary, followed by the same adversary being decapitated by a swift strike from Cessily. She melts, and then races towards another man, who screams as she darts straight through his midsection, ripping him in half. Camera turns, and sees Paige stalking determinedly into a hail of gunfire, which bounces off of her metal form, and she simply punches her way through the chests of the shooters. Scene changes, and a long distance view of the compound plays for two seconds, before the entire structure goes up in a huge explosion Liam chuckles heartily "Not unlike one of your fancy "video games", eh friends? Heh heh heh. Well, that's all for tonight. Now, be sure to tell your families and neighbors about us. We are M.A.W., and if you threaten mutants, in any way, we will swallow you whole. Good night, friends." screen fades to black Basically I want to have Liam acting as a very civilized psychopath. He won't be, of course, but his on screen persona will be. Sort of like Mark Hamil's Joker if he were a gentlemanly type of guy.

Posts: 4,043 Group: Members Member #38 Joined: February 8, 2009	I'm digging the idea, though I think this would not sit well with the X-men, hell George Gargan wouldn't approve these kinds of media outbursts. He does understand the necessity of X-force, but appearing on tv (however awesome it is as you did here) would be to much as it would mean they are gloating in the face of mankind. I do like the old fire place and library shtick though. Magneto should've done it like that.

They're going to wage their war with or without media coverage, but media coverage will actually help their cause (namely, to punish those that the X-Men can't, and to give the X-Men some breathing room when it comes to simply doing the work they do). Liam's team (Officially named MAW now) is there to be the scapegoat for the public to blame when the world needs to blame some mutants for something. They're not going to be a secretive kind of people, instead showing their "faces" at every turn. They aren't going to be a group of assassins, though they will do that. They're basically going to pull a "Dark Knight" and do what needs doing, for as long as it needs to be done. They're going to draw as much attention to the persecution/discrimination of mutants as they can.
