since i started the topic, let me start first..i prefer single issues the most..here's why.

- being able to read it as soon as it comes out (or at least i make sure to get the issue no more than two weeks after the release)
- taking care of the condition of the comics adds to the thrill of owning comics for me.
- i have a hard time saving money, i tend to spend money whenever i have some. that means if i wait for the collected versions, chances are i won't have money when it comes out.
- the SLIGHT possibility that the single issue MIGHT raise in value (though this is sort of like an added bonus for me if ever it happens)

one thing i hate though, backtracking is a b*tch. especially since most backissue bins will lack just one or two of the storyarc.

I pretty much only buy single issues and even then only the first printing. I like to collect things as much as read them and so the issues work for me. If I am unsure of the story I might buy the trades first (or if the issues are simply too expensive for me interest level) but I always do attempt to find the single issues.

Having come to comic books late, and not being a collector, I prefer TPBs. I value this site for reviews (yes, you, jrpbsp!) and discussion, so that I can note story arcs I'll most likely enjoy and can be on the watch for when they are collected into single volumes. Also, I find the many pages of advertising in singles distracting and annoying, and to me, feel that they inhibit the "flow" of story and action.

Well thanks. I do hope to get back to it once I finish my convention/selling thing this month. Unfortunately there has been little of not to review lately and I do hate doing constant and steady negative reviews of issues and stories.

Simply because tpb tend to be the only ones I can legally get hold of.

Tpb because they are sturdier and feel like a real book. They are easier to display on a shelf too.
