Oh, I agree that the family friendly type stories get boring after a while, but I think in terms of my preferences lately I enjoy those family friendly stories more because it seems like alot of these movies, tv shows, books, and comics try to be so out there and edgy all the time. For me it just gets tired so quickly, for instance I am a fan of the tv show, Supernatural but the last few seasons have been so dark, edgy and emo that the show almost seems like a parody of itself. Almost every story-line that is created for the really good shows is always drama, drama, drama, and it just gets exhausting to be emotionally invested in the stories, Sons of Anarchy is another good example. Sometimes I just want a fun story that is just enjoyable to watch period and No Ordinary Family provides that . Maybe one day my preference will swing back the other way where all of the emo/drama story-lines will appeal to me more, but not at this time. I was just checking to see if it was a barb, but for the most part I did not think it was. ![]() It would be nice to see a tv show or comic that had decent enough writing that could combine the two elements, like M.A.S.H. used to do in the old days. |

MASH wasn't really dark aside from a few episodes. It had it's dramatic moments but I don't like I would ever call it truly dark. Even deaths tended to be briefly mentioned and then glossed over quickly for the sake of more comedy. |

I think it had it's fair share of dramatic moments that were balanced with comedy. Edited by Templedog, Mar 7 2011, 10:10 PM.

There were a few but then all sitcoms had them back then. I'm sure you remember 'And next, on a very special episode of...' Just how it went. But didn't change the overall tone of the series. |

I must be remembering a different MASH then you. The "very the special episode" trend did not start until the mid-eighties long after the MASH series ended. I was only citing MASH as a series that blended comedy and drama quite effectively and in my opinion still is far far far better then most of the series that are on television these days. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Very_special_episode |

MASH didn't end until 1983 so mid 80s can't be long after it ended. And even if the term hadn't been coined yet, the idea of doing a more serious episodes of comedies had been around long before that. But then I freely admit to not remembering that much about MASH. I watched it some but was never a big fan. Preferred more action based shows like A-Team, Incredible Hulk, Knight Rider and such. |

You should go back and watch some episodes of M.A.S.H. because they never did any of the "very special episode" bullshit. They freely mixed comedy and drama all the time to great effect. usually there were always two story-lines running concurrently per episode, one comedic, and one dramatic. The only episode of M.A.S.H. that had any kind of hype was the finale. I am sorry if my preference for more "family friendly" story-lines offends you, but I prefer character development and growth over straight action. As long as the character development does not become overly dramatic, tedious, and or emo. |

Nothing in here is something I care enough to be offended over so sorry if it sounded that way. It takes an awful lot to offend me anyway. In truth I don't remember MASH as being particularly dramatic outside of a few episodes but I don't care enough about it to go back and watch it. I was not much of a fan, that was more my mother. It's probably more that compared to the stuff I watch now, it really wasn't dramatic. But I can take your word that it was for the time. |

Tonight's episode was great. The Wolverine-type was actually more of a tiger-man. Although he did look a bit like ultimate Wolverine. |
