Ah, another Scans_Daily person! Yay! ![]() http://scans-daily.dreamwidth.org/ ..if you`re still interested..they got some pretty interesting things nowadays. And I absolutely adore Jason, especially as written by Winick! Isn`t it awesome that the "Under the Red Hood" movie is coming out in late July (27th, I believe), featuring both Nightwing and Winick-Jay? And Neil Patrick Harris as the voice of Dick Grayson?

Yeah. I'm currently enjoying the lost days series (an american friend emails me scans) (and having said that, 2 will promptly suck royally). Morrison Jason though (shudders) |

And regarding Nightwing`s baggage, I think one of the reasons he`s dealt with it so well during the years is due to being raised by a person with plenty of experience in the field. Bruce not only showed him how to cope with suffering, but more importantly allowed him to be a child and enjoy his childhood (something Bruce himself never allowed himself to). 40s superhero fashion aside, I believe this is one of the main reason Robin`s outfit was so ridiculously colourful. |

True. Doesn't explain why Jason agree to wear it though (though Bruce, Dick, Jason and thier relationship is a whole other area of debate) |

Well, Jason was brought into a legacy setting. Maybe Bruce was trying to 'Robin' him up in order to bring him down the good path? (not that I buy into this 'Jason was a bad seed' nonsense, but growing up in Crime Alley, he was not without his problems) I liked it how it was revamped for Tim ....you can tell the kid`s a genius! ![]() Edited by Ahma, Jul 7 2010, 04:56 AM.

Yeah, but even when Jason is first introduced, Alfred warns Bruce about the amount he is referencing Dick in training Jason. Jason is definately not a bad seed (Morrison et al since RIP are like Way. Need to actually read their own comics). I think Bruce did want to help him, but as was pointed out in the unoffical Batman companion, it was a very different situation to the one with Dick or Bruce himself. Both lost their parents suddenly, both at once and remained some form of stable influence. Plus both their parents were relatively good, stable people. Jason's father (it is implied) cleared off when he was small (before dying at Two face's hands possibly), and his mother was a junkie/sick for a year before she died, then Jason was on the streets for a year. I've no doubt Bruce, (or Alfred, who rules) had a good influence, Jason's decision to try and find his mother is proof of that, but it was a bad time to be Robin. Bruce was captured and brainwashed by Rev Deacon (Batman: The CUlt, my absolute favourite Batman book, if you do not have it, buy it, even if you're not a Jason Todd fan) and Nightwing was captured by Brother blood and his hoards (and also brainwashed). There were also no other heroes of Jason's own age (except Tara, but that's a whole other story). Add that to his troubled youth and his mother, the fact that there were not more problems is all that's surprising. Red Hood has always been a grey area character, a little like Wolverine, or reconned Bucky, or the Punisher. He kills, yeah, but murderers and rapists. As some one on one the comms said fans can be forgiven for thinking it's not such a big deal. Tim is a very cool Robin, but as recent months have shown, not without his own set of issues. Then again, without them, they wouldn't be the Bats that we love. |
