For those just finding this topic, it branched out from http://forums.wolverinefiles.com/topic/3524236/1/#new. Which is great, because I`ve been meaning to pull together a thread regarding this sometimes underrated character. Like I said before, he`s top of the list in terms of my favourites and I`ll be honest, many of the traits that earned him that spot were chosen on strictly subjective terms. I for one love the combination of happy-go-lucky optimist wise-ass who is also quite a decent human being with a lot of heart. And he`s quite the looker too. AND an acrobat. Need I say more? 
Yeah, Ebay is like acid to the pocket...but you gotta do what you gotta do. And I very much agree about the Gotham Knights series. I love it when the Batman Family acts like a real family. But there is that part of me that says "It`s Devin Grayson, DON`T!" (I don`t think I can trust her writing after the atrocity that was her Nightwing run) Edited by Ahma, Jul 6 2010, 02:10 PM.

I treat her Nightwing run, like I treat Way's Wolverine. I ignore it, and pretend it never happen. It's quite easy as it's never referenced again (which is a pity, if it had been properly handled, especially the rape issue it could have been good. Creepy, but good (ala Speedy + Heroin) |

In a sense, I guess. With some form of exceptionally good handling, writing, fall and rise-type scenario. But for some reason D.Grayson thought Nightwing was DC`s Daredevil..ahem..no. But in these type of situations, ignorance is indeed bliss

To my way of thinking Nightwing is almost the perfect superhero. He has all of Batman's skills and almost none of the psychological baggage. |

I agree That`s why he`s my all time favourite comics character.
It was during Devin Grayson`s run of the title. She had Dick torn away from all his friends, his apartment blown up and him sleeping on the streets. Apart from that, she gave him this lame self-insert love interest (Tarantula) who ended up raping him as a way to make him feel better (no, seriously..) about himself. Basically, she shot Block buster, NW blamed himself for not acting to stop the killing (like jumping in front of the bullet) and then entered a big ol` depression...so she wanted to "comfort" him while he was literally yelling 'Stay away from me!". Nice. This...story....isn`t collected in any trade because obviously everyone hated it (up there with Rise of Arsenal)..if you really wanna read it, you can get the issues separately, I think (maybe Ebay). |

You can also read the main parts on scans daily (if that site is still around, I stopped checking after it's fifth move). Seriously, it's Nightwing 92 (or 3) and it's seriously creepy. As I said, if handled better, it could have worked, allowing DC to tackle two difficult issues (rape and male rape in particular), but it got...I don't even know how to describe it. Fridged I think is the best term I can come up with. With regards to Nightwings baggage, I'm not sure. I always thought he had the same amount of baggage as Batman, just different (as you would have expected from being raised by Batman and running around in short green pants in Gotham). But I freely admit that my favourite DC character is also a Robin, Jason Todd (the second one) |

Grayson run was also bad, as it gave fan fiction writers a bad name, especially over her claim that the rape issue was not rape, even though it was non con. As was pointed out on most of the sites I frequent, if any fan fiction writer tried what she did, they would yelled at over internet, and possibly banned from the conn. on grounds of poor handling. Toture the characters by all means, but remember to put them back together. that's where the interest lies |
