Agreed with you there.
Also the film was visually quite well done, such as Chris Evans pre-Captain America and the Art Deco style in the credits.

Indeed. I wasn't a fan of Howard Stark, actually. I found him a little...offputting. I know he's supposed to be kind of a douche, but even still, I really didn't get into him at all. He kinda struck me as the "jock who gets his just desserts in the end" but never actually got anything that was coming to him. Also, he was a science jock, so....whatever that means. *shrug* Anyway. I loved the movie, and Chris Evans was magical. Can't wait for the Avengers.

Chris Evans was great as Cap. In the post credits scene when we see Fury tell Steve that he has been asleep for seventy years you can just see briefly the pain in Cap's face, like his world has just collapsed. This remains true to Cap's early storylines in the late 60s and 70s, because when he first got thawed out Cap very much felt like a man out of time and brooded quite a bit. Hopefully the writers of the Avengers will keep a bit of that aspect for his character in the next movie?

I am not sure why I liked the Howard Stark I just did, but strangely enough I disliked the older, harsher version we see in Iron Man 2. I think I liked Howard because from him you could see where Tony gets parts of his personality.

I cannot wait for the Avengers movie either.

Hello everyone!
Today i'll review 'Rise of Planet of the Apes' which is a prequel of sorts for the original Planet of the Apes movie series.
For people who haven't watched those movies....come here.

No i'm not coming to hurt you, come here.

That's for not watching the original series!
What's wrong with you?! It has talking monkies on it, riding horses and shooting guns! Timetravel, nukes, timetravel, a sparticus story, TIMETRAVEL!
Just...just go, before i freak out. Seriously. GTFO.

Alright, for those who DID see the movies, or partially saw them allow me to explain.
Rise of Planet of the Apes can be considered as a prequel to a re-telling of the Planet of the Apes story where Apes become rulers over a post apocalyptic Earth after a nuclear war/disease while humans become mute slaves. This movie is from the 1st timeline before Taylor and the Icarus crew went back in time.

It's like Terminator, except with monkeys.

Rise of Planet of the Apes (ROPOTA) has a lot going for it.
Awesome effects which show some pretty darn nice looking Chimpanzee's, Gorilla's and Orang-Oetangs. Good acting all over. A well placed plot and showing both sides (humans vs apes) as normal factions of sorts.

Actors wise we're going into obscure levels here.
I mean we got Harry Osborn from the Spider-man movies, Doctor Rodney friggin' Mcckay for Stargate Atlantis and Dick Solomon from 3th Rock from the Sun!
Yes, they got Dick Solomon in a serious role, how did that happen?

Well then agian, he's playing someone with Alzheimzer in this film, so it all makes sense.

And of course we got Andy Serkis as Ceasar since we all know him from King Kong, and also that other unimportant movie wassit...

It'll come to me soon enough, whatever.

Honestly with all those actors i'm suprised they didn't get anyone obscure like Brian Cox from X2 or something.

Oh.....oh...

Ceascar's story is a proper arc. You see him as a little baby monkey and see him grow into the fullfledged leader of the Ape rebellion who comes up with battle plans to get his people to safety and out of human hands.
HE RIDES A HORSE PEOPLE!

I know, right!

As for the character, the humans are your average patch with but people who look after Ceascar and care about animal rights and all that, and the jerks who want to make money for a cure against Alzheimer.
You got of course a jerk who hates monkeys (which is odd since he works at a Ape shelter) but he gets dealt with, with electrifying results....hehe...heh...yeh he gets zapped.

As for the Apes, here the filmmakers show they are on top of their game.
There is little to no dialogue between the Apes and you really have to pay attention on how they communicate. For example the Orang-Oetang, Maurice (what else are you gonna call a Orang-Oetang, honestly?) speaks with Ceasar with sign language (since Ceasar is smart and Maurice is a circus monkey), while with other monekys it's a mix of grunts and showing respect to each other.

Suprisingly even, the Gorilla in this film (unlike the others) is NOT a douchebag at all!
In fact he could be considered as Ceasar's main man when heavy lifting becomes involved, which would explain how Gorilla's later on could be considered the military caste of the Ape hierarchy.

There is a 'evil' chimpanzee there in the film, and he's actually only becoming involved in the 3th act of the film, with clear plans of making him a rival for Ceasar in the sequel.
Yes, like the Marvel movies there is a lot of sequel bait here such as the introduction of a disease that would wipe out mankind and the launch of the Icarus spaceship.

In conclussion, Rise of Planet of the Apes is a good movie and deffo deserves a look, either in Cinema's or on DVD.
And to be honest, you dont have to have seen the previous movies to make sense of it all, this film is a perfect jump on experience you dont have to have seen the others to make sense of it or enjoy it.

The beginning might be a bit slow, but rhe action and suspense really does pick up soon after and seeing ceasar grow is the best part of the entire film.

I'll see you lot later.
