it's just bad writing and continuity in general, in my opinion. When you retcon something then you might as well use the retcon or at least explain why you chose not to use it.

Bone spikes become razor sharp knives when encased in Adamatium... I guess that really could only be done separatley, when you think about it.

Remove the spikes, encase them into a knife mold to be filled with Adamantium, and put them back in his arms.

I mean, how else do you achieve their knife like appearance?

Well initially they looked like that because they were meant to be knives in his costume. Once they revealed they were part of him, well they kept the same appearance for consistency sake arguing that is how they were formed. Now, with the bone claws, it's just been ignored. We're supposed to accept that is just the way they form in the process.

In the dictionary, under "Retcon", they should include all 13 issues of WEAPON X by Barry Windsor-Smith from 1991, followed immediately with WOLVERINE 75 by Larry Hama from 1993.

A textbook example of contradictorily (yeah, it's a word) rewriting the history of established canon.

And I'd allow them to do it again, to repair what they've done. Just give Deadpool the Infinity Gauntlet, aim him at the fourth wall and declare it never happened. Erased from history. They were, are, and always will be cybernetic implants made of pure Adamantium. 'Nuff freakin' said.

Until that day... WTF! Bone spikes instead? What? Do they even qualify in any way to be defined as "Claws"? They are knives. Knives made of pure Adamantium. They're worth over $2,000,000 in 1979 dollars. Extracted mechanically from inside Adamantium Sheathes and activated cybernetically through relays wired directly into his spinal chord.

No. Larry Hama and Adam Kubert say that they are ugly bone spikes.

I once bought WOLVERINE 75 signed by Adam Kubert for about $20 off of eBay a fews years back. I set it on fire. True story.

Bone spikes. WTF, man.

That's all I have to say about that.

(That's me sitting at the bus stop, ranting at the poor lady next to me. Not a true story.)

The whole losing admantium/having Wolverine lose his healing factor story arc is one of my personal pet peeves in general. The only comic I ever truly destroyed was Wolverine 100 when instead of getting the metal back he turned into a fuzzy no nose chimp. The worst part is that there were some good stories in there but the whole thing was so overshadowed by the sudden changes and bad concepts that it is hard to separate the two.
