People that need money and work and can't get it anywhere else? You would be surprised at the number of people that bash their own movies after the fact. 'I did it for the money' being the excuse. I remember an interview with Jeremy Irons after Dungeons and Dragons came out and he said 'You do some movies for the love of it and you do some because they pay you a lot. Guess which one this was?' It has a bad habit of being especially true in comics. Not 100% sure if it's true for Daniel Way, but I know that Starlin admitted to hating the idea of Batman and Robin, and planning to kill Robin (Jason Todd) off right from his arrival. Unfortunately being a fan of the comic is no guarantee of a good writer. Devin Grayson`s run on nightwing being the classic example. |

Thankfully, since the money is much much less, there are more people that get into the business for the love of the genre. Now that Hollywood has such an interest, there are definitely more of the 'Buy my rights!' people around. But even if you love comics, you don't always like all the characters and, especially starting out, you don't always get to choose. So I can definitely see people killing off characters as a revenge for having to write the title in the first place. |
