The fact of the matter is that the only reason to have done an issue of Wolverine as a stand alone (of which there have been many) and suddenly call it #900 is to reference it back to Deadpool. Making it stand out is all well and good but for many people it is standing out because it is taking a page from another title.

If they had called it Wolverine #300 it would have served the same purpose of making it stand out and might have even been correct. But they chose to use #900 knowing full well that people would make the connection back to Deadpool.

The truth is the bi-monthly Wolverine one shots have been low sales from the start and this is an obvious attempt to drum up some more sales. I hope it works for them. That does not meant that it is not an obvious rip off of the Deadpool issue though.

There's no denying the connection or the fact that it's a "rip-off", but it's still not cashing in on Deadpool's popularity, a popularity that I believe is more Marvel-generated than actually demanded by the audience.

Well Deadpool is outselling all the Wolverine titles right now except Dark Wolverine and he is doing it with three ongoings and a fourth on the way. I don't understand it myself, even though I like Deadpool I think he works best in smaller doses. Still it seems like Deadpool is everywhere right now and everyone is using him on covers, or his name, or numbers to try and boost sales. This looks like the same sort of thing.

@jrpbsp i agree with you on that one, i don't think deadpool should have more than one on going..people are saying wolverine is over exposed, what about dp? they even used him for the exclusive variant retailers get for giving marvel a specific number of specific blackest night covers..

Yeah and they are using him in Doomwar, Cable and so on too. He has a five issue limited series coming out this month, plus one shot and his on goings. It's silly.

Yeah, I love Deadpool, but I agree that they are putting out way too much of him right now. I've liked his Team-Ups, so I think they should keep that and the main Deadpool title. Drop Merc With A Mouth and all these guest appearances (I haven't picked up Deadpool Corps yet though). I prefer quality over quantity, and I don't think most of it has been very high quality stuff.

It's good for sales now, but I can see people getting sick of Deadpol soon if they haven't already.

He just popped up in Wolverine: origins as well. No surprise as Way is writing it but still it's just getting sad.

I see Deadpool as the Boba Fett of Marvel. He started out as a minor character and when the audience showed interest in the mystery and novelty surrounding the character, they were saturated with marketing and excessive material.

Agreed, he is having the bobby fett-effect or Tommy Oliver from Power Rangers if you will.
Problem is though the public will start disliking our merc with a mouth if he keeps popping up all over the place.

Well boba was pretty popular quickly, Deadpool has been around a long time and always had a core group of passionate fans. It was just never enough to really float a single book let alone a whole line. Now it looks like they are just cashing in as quick as they can before he crashes.
