Blasphemer!!!! Heh. They were really awesome, you're right there. I think I still prefer LOTR, though. Of course, if we're gonna go full on "Vote for best battle scene ever" it's gotta go to the battle of Yavin 4, in Star Wars: A New Hope. I mean, seriously? Name me another battle that's won by such a slim margin. I dare you. Two proton torpedos into a two meter (six foot) hole? Yeah. Beat that, Jake Sully! |

SF battles are a totally different league from normal fantasy battles, espcially in Space. In Space.....i dunno, i really liked the Battlestar Galactica battles and Commander Adama's cold precise orders giving the Colonists victory. However my favourite space battle on film is the one from Star Trek: First Contact with the Borg Cube. I shouted with glee when i saw the Defiant fighting. Also the Milinium Falcon made a cameo in there as a easter egg. On fantasy however, the battle for Helms Deep is my favourite all because of Gimli and Legolas, th two characters that barely had any time on Return of the King. Come on who didn't like the Dwarf/Elf rivalry on their kills? Legolas: -just killed a entire Mummakill and his crew, sliding off his trunk- Gimli: ....That still counts as one! |

*Falls over laughing* "Toss me....uh....don't tell the elf." True enough, yall. Best land battle, melee style, has to be Helms Deep. |

When it comes to pure epic-ness for fantasy to film, I don't think anything will ever beat LOTR. I hope the Hobbit can hold even a very small candle to it. It wasn't written to be the same sort of epic on the scale of LOTR, but I still hope it fits with the trilogy. |

it'll all depend on how the Battle of the Five armies is done. Hobbit is much more of a travel story then a war story. Here hopes John Rhus Davis makes a cameo and Orlando Bloom. You need Sir Ian Mckellen for Gandalf or else i'm not buying it. |

It's much smaller in scope in general. It's a more personal tale of worth and meaning then a massive save the world saga. Still could end up amazing though if done right. |
