2009 marked the 35th anniversary of the character "Wolverine." The year was filled with many events and special promotions, large and small, to mark this anniversary. As 2009 rushes to its conclusion, what thoughts do you forum participants have about "the year of Wolverine?" What do you consider best and/or worst moments, events, developments, comics, news, etc.? For me, the worst is easy -- my disappointment at the mediocrity which was the movie. So much effort expended on such an inane script, throwing in too many unnecessary characters, little to no "origins" explored, ultimately just another forgettable "blowed-'em-up-real-good" popcorn flick with no "heart." I can't recall ever anticipating a movie so much, then being so completely let down. The best - well, the creation of this forum back in January, a place to come to with questions about any aspect of Logan/Wolverine! I have had questions patiently addressed by several knowledgeable forum members, had pictures identified, read reviews of comics old and new, seen news of other Wolverine events of interest, had convoluted Daniel Way plot (or lack thereof!) explained, and had a civil place to join in with my rants and raves. Think back over 2009 regarding Wolverine, and share your thoughts. |

I recall this forum and X-force very well this year. The members on this site, how we respected each other and spoke like adults, sometimes lacking in most forums i was part of, the fanfic me and tempestdog did and later Raja. The saddest thing is the dissapear-ince of Anne and Gabriel Zero, i liked those two very much and not having them here is a great loss. |

i'll remember this year for the fact that it was the year i got back to collecting wolverine..i remember buying a few comics first..just one-shots so i wouldn't have to feel inclined to catch up..flies to a spider, amazing immortal man, chop shop, and killing made simple..but then i saw the cover of x-force #13..bought it..and backtracked 1-12.. so there, i guess those one-shots actually work..they slowly reintroduced me to the comic world until i was finally ready to buy an ongoing series.. as for the wolverine origins movie, i kind of expected it to be like that..wouldn't really be able to fit in wolverine's twisted history in the movie..still enjoyed it though, worst part was deadpool..but i agree, it was more of a popcorn flick.. i also don't want to think about how much i spent on wolverine merchandise.. so yeah, the year of the wolverine was a good year for me.

Was I alone here in thinking that this was a dismal year for Wolverine? The stories I enjoyed most were probably ULTIMATE WOLVERINE VS. HULK and WOLVERINE NOIR, and I didn't think either was amazing. Though saying that I haven't read 'Old Man Logan' or 'Adamantium Men' yet (waiting for TPB) so maybe I can't comment too much. |

I don't think you are alone in believing that this was not a very good year for Wolverine. He lost his main title and although Weapon X is good it does not have the numbers or support as Wolverine did. Origins is of course best forgotten. There were a few good one shots and such but really nothing much major happened for Logan. My favorite thing was probably the end of Old Man Logan but that story started last year. Other negatives include being killed off in two different alternate universes (Forever and Ultimate). He is also currently not in New Avengers though I do hope that changes but it looks like the next big event, The Siege, will be X-Men and Wolverine-free. He did not have much of a role in any of the big stories this year point of fact, barely anything in Utopia for example. I would like to see a new and strong limited for Logan or have him back on his real title. Give him another place to stand out and be seen. I certainly never expected when I would see the day that Deadpool had more ongoing titles then Wolverine but well here it is. Pretty sad year in general. |

now that you put it that way i kind of agree, but i do think limiting wolverines appearances could also be a positive thing..2010 looks promising too..why? Origins will end sometime around that year..and hopefully after the siege they return wolverine to his main title and just put daken on a team book somewhere.. |

Well I agree getting rid of Origins will be good assuming they do not just move Way to the regular Wolverine title. That would actually be even worse. I am hopeful for the upcoming year but we'll see. I already know the best thing, Daken dying, isn't gonna happen any time soon. |

I would love a good strong LS that really re-establishes the character and justifies how Wolverine came to appear in so many titles in the first place. I think the probem with that is any of the real industry heavyweight writers that would draw a big readership either (a) don't write a great Logan or (b) don't have any interest in writing him solo. I'd like to see if screenwriter of the first (decent) draft of X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE and Wolverine-comics fan David Benioff would take a crack at it. C.P. Smith, my favourite new artist that's drawn Logan in the past couple of years is on WEAPON X #10, so hopefully that bodes well for him getting more Wolverine work. If what Neal Adams says about perhaps working on Wolverine eventually happens, 2010 or more likely 2011 might produce a great Wolverine book. By the way, what the hell ever happened to the CB Cebulski/David Finch Wolverine project from a while ago? |

Mark Millar writes a excellent Wolverine, i really hope he does a 'Agent of SHIELD' storyline again soon, because it's thanks to that series i got into Wolverine, and i'm sure it did to many other readers aswell.

In truth Bendis' Wolverine in New Avengers has not been bad either. We just really need a new status quo established, a series that really gets into his head and sorts out all the things he is dealing with right now. From having his memories back, to having a family to being one of a few surviving mutants and leading a hit squad. There is plenty going on but we never really see him deal with it. |
