Veteran comic creator Neal Adams was featured in a panel at this month's Big Apple Comic Con, along with J. David Spurlock and his son Josh. During the hour-long Q&A, Adams discussed his studio’s work on motion comics, including the upcoming Astonishing X-Men motion comic being released by Marvel, revealed he is talking with the publisher about a new project starring Wolverine, talked about his upcoming new Batman: Odyssey project for DC and indicated that publisher is planning a new reprint edition of the 1978 never-reprinted Superman vs. Muhammad Ali Special Edition, as well as discussed his humanitarian efforts.

Since the prospect of doing motion comics inspired Adams to do a Batman comic, a fans asked if doing the X-Men motion comic inspire any motivation to return to X-Men, another series Adams left his imprint on in the late 60s/early 70s.

“I wanted to do a feature for Marvel, so I’m saying, ‘give me a lousy feature that doesn’t make any money and I’ll make it into something’ and they say, ‘well, why don’t you do Wolverine?’ So, we’re kinda talking about doing Wolverine,” said Adams.

How amazing would Neal Adams on Wolverine be? One of the best comic artists ever, and probably the best Batman artist ever for me. The last (and first?) time Adams drew Logan in-comic was for Joss Whedon's story in GIANT-SIZE X-MEN # 3.

Here's the cover of WOLVERINE: WEAPON X #1 Neal did for the Hero Initiative:

I like Neal Adams but not sure how his style will translate to the modern comics. I haven't read anything of his in years (Only know him really from that X-Men arc that ended the first run). Still anything that gives Wolverine a high profile is great.

I understand contracts were signed last week for Neal Adams, one of the most influential comic book creators in superhero comics, to work on a new Wolverine title for Marvel Comics.

Adams, famed for defining the modern look of Batman, Superman and Green Arrow, he worked on X-Men before the introduction of Wolverine and the accompanying revamp. While doing a few recent short stories, with Allan Heinberg in Young Avengers, and with Joss Whedon in Giant Size X-Men #3, this is the first series Neal has worked on for Marvel for over thirty years.

Adams is still very busy on the Batman: Odyssey maxi-series for DC Comics and the Wolverine project is still only in the writing stages for now, but expect that to start changing pretty soon…

Josh Adams (Neal’s son, and talented artist in his own right) chimed in about the story on the Bleeding Cool message boards.

I don't expect that this will be "another" Wolverine book as much as it will be set for the Wolverine line, that however is not based on any knowledge of the matter as I haven't had any involvement in this project... He's very much interested in telling the stories that he finds interesting and tackling the issues that most writers have so far deemed too challenging. From what I know about Batman and what I have heard about the development on Wolverine they should be some interesting tales.

And in response to a member wondering whether Adams will be forced to draw Wolverine like Hugh Jackman by editorial:

Are you kidding me??? It's been a source of complaint among us with the Adams' name that Wolverine has been "Jacked-up" in height over the years. I'd bet you’re gonna see Wolverine as he was meant to be...unable to ride the big boy coasters.

Glad to hear it.

it would definitely be nice to see Wolverine going back to his short and hairy origins.

We are proud to say that Neal just inked a deal to work on Wolverine. We at Continuity are very excited. I always like to work with both companies DC and Marvel and I am happy we are going to be doing that. I just put up some Wolverine pin up art to wet all of our appetites.

I assume this is the art he's taking about, a bigger version of the image already featured at Bleeding Cool (click to see):

That`s what I was wondering...I was under the impression Marvel would cut down the number of Wolvie ongoings...

Still, Neal Adams sounds thrilling! I would be interested in seeing his take on Wolverine...

Well origins is ending, so possible that Adams will jump on Wolverine when that comes back to Logan.
