but so many cross-overs makes then less "special" than they were in the old days when they were less frequent. |

As long as the make money no one in the industry cares if they are special. They are a needed infusion of cash. I'd be all for no real crossovers, they are always over hyped and under written. |

I quite agree with the paranoid housewives. After all comics like X-force is builed on such adult content with a deep dark storyline you cant pull off in the Golden age. |

True, I just wish that marvel made comics like the black and white comic magazines of the 1970s. Those were good. I do agree that X-Force is pretty good. |

That is the part that irks me most about all the cross-overs, and it always seems like the events are forgotten or ret-conned two or three years later. |

I think what's really sad is that there are good comic writers out there, but most seem to be more interested in the shockfactor and seeing how much they can get away with. I'm the first to admit I hate Daniel Way (especially since he started Origins), and I'm surprised at how much he has been allowed to get away with, but Brubaker's run on Cap is shocking, yes, but it works...somehow (I have absolutely no idea how). The Knauf's run on Iron Man wasn't bad either, Wolverine just seems to have been stuck with bad writers for a while. What the bosses don't seem to realise is that it's the story, not the shock factor that draws people in. Look at First Class, or Marvel Adventures. I only know one person who dislikes either of them. Why? Because without the shock factor allowed, they actually have to write. |

Amen to that! Shock factor stories are like cheating in a race - you pump your runner with steroids, he goes the distance in one leap, but at the end he`s finished and there`s only that much you can do with him afterwards.. Whereas a story with an actual plot, development and details goes a long way before running thin. |

Exactly! Shock value is cheap, and it really makes me wonder how someone got so far on shock alone. |

Well unfortunately shock still sells. Put 'In this issue someone DIES' in the solicits and watch the sales spike. Of course that only works so long which is way we are getting stuck in this infinite loop of cross-overs and events even in the limited world of the X-titles. Used to be you got a crossover or big event every few years but now? Messiah Complex lead into Dissolution which went to Manifest Destiny then Messiah War, Utopia, Nation X, Necrosha and then Second Coming. It's sicking. |
