In Way's recent interview (over on DiG's W Files site), he gives his explanation of why Daken can have a massive tattoo regardless of his healing factor. The same reasoning should apply to Logan, but Way doesn't address why Daken can and Logan can't keep a tattoo. Way disregards that other writers over the years have shown that Logan's healing factor doesn't allow him to permanently sustain a tattoo Is this just Way ignoring or disregarding past parameters for characters? The explanation without covering both characters with healing factors just seems lame. Perhaps, Daken's healing factor works differently. He is different enough from Logan in other ways -- different powers, different physical build, appearance, claw configuration. Perhaps he's different enought from Logan that he's not Logan's son at all! Just because Daken has claws and a healing factor doesn't neccessarily mean that he really is Logan's son. WHAT IF...Daken, especially with his powers of manipulation and suggestion - very like Romulus ... is not Logan's son, but is Romulus's son with Itsu. Why not? Romulus could have manipulated and controlled (and *used*) Itsu without her or Logan's knowledge. Daken seems more like Romulus in abilities, certainly over the years in his tutelage, and other characters throughout the MU have healing factors. What if it actually turns out that Daken really is Romulus's son, not Logan's after all this. Considering the history of manipulation, deceit, and mind-wiping -- getting "all" one's memories back -- that has been done all through the years by this Romulus character as dished out by Way, it doesn't seem any weirder to twist things around again with this idea...it's as cracked as anything else I've seen regarding Daken, Logan, and Romulus. |

The silly hair and the tattoo are definitely reasons I dislike Daken's overall design. Not sure what explanation is given but ignoring the past is definitely Way's M.O. That is when he is not openly spitting on what came before. I know the series has fans but I am eagerly awaiting Origins either getting a new writer or being canceled all together. That being said I really doubt they will ever reveal Daken is not Wolverine's son. Simply because part of his appeal and marketing has been 'look kids here's an even edgier and amoral Wolverine. He's not the Logan of your parents, he's cooler!' Anything that breaks the connection between them could hurt the appeal i.e. money. Of course I would be all for it. Especially if it was a nice death bed confession. |

I've always thought Daken was simply created to appeal to a younger generation of readers -- Way's attempt to recreate a "badder" baddass. |

what's more bad ass then the normal Wolverine. Daken may use his father's title, but he's not Wolverine. Wolverine is a anti-hero who does the right thing a bit in his own way, but he has lines he would never cross. Daken on the other hand is more arrogant, younger and would kill children if it fits in his goals. |
