New York's seedy Bowery district, 1937. In the past twenty-four hours, private detective Jim Logan has been jerked around by a dame called Mariko and beaten half to death by a bruiser named Creed. Now he's ready for payback. But little does he realize that it might just be the secrets of Logan's violent past that bring him down for good. Parental Advisory …$3.99

I hope everyone finds the story more interesting this time around.

Well we'll see. I never really got into the old Detective Movies or novels so it's partially that I just don't care for the genre. I can usually look past that if the story is very engaging, but so far it's pretty much a simplistic who done it. And that's always my problem with them, it's basically the same story. The character's aren't engaging either, not enough to make the difference. Logan here is just another Philip Marlowe clone.

I never really read a Noir or watched a detective movie before. I've seen some psychological thrillers in my time, but I hardly think they count as a real Noir. Probably the closest I've ever got to a Noir is the Sin City movie, and I don't even think that counts does it? That is probably why a simplistic Noir version of Wolverine appeals to me.

The beginning of the issue opens up with a bang, the Noir version of Yuriko murdered at the hands of Victor Creed. I have to admit that I like the mystery surrounding this Logan, his whole entire life being manipulations and mind games. But that is not the only reason.

They have kept all the important elements that the Wolverine stories have. Take Smitty for example and how he is a Great War veteran. He is the perfect character to represent all of Logan's training and martial arts experience. I really did get a kick of those scenes where Smitty is teaching him how to fight and have honor. There is even mention of the Samurai which I though was a nice bonus.

I get a big kick out of seeing Logan use knives and daggers, that was always suppose to be Logan's weapon before he got the claws. It kind of sucks that they don't show him using those weapons in the Earth 616 flashbacks before Weapon X. I always though there was a unsaid connection between Logan and bladed weapons, the fact that has a strong presence in this book pleases me.

Finally I enjoyed the way Logan's inner beast is described in this book, especially when you have his dad who is a preacher constantly condemning it. In this world the beast is a bit psychological at first, reminding me of Logan's inner demons. Which has always been a common theory for Logan's inner beast in the 616 universe. After all Creed has given into the beast and it has led him to mankind's most sadistic crimes and atrocities a human being could commit. Maybe the animal inside Logan is no different then those sins we are not suppose to give in to.

All and all I like those little gems this book takes from the main Wolverine books. I got a big kick out of seeing new twists of already established stories.

=)

I only really count the 40s-60s movies as true Noir.
