Typhoid's Kiss Part One Through Eight

Posted Image Posted Image Posted Image

Logan meets up with a victim of a similar secret service organization that he served in. It takes some convincing but he remembers this guy as "Roberts" who was in "Frank's Division" over ten years ago. Apparently after pledging loyalty the did something to his mind, where they can telepathically send his assassination missions. The guys sounds absolutely insane but for good reason, he was completely rewired to do nothing but kill. I get the feeling that Logan is one of the few people in the world who can completely understand what he is going through.

In fact Logan admits he could be where he is right now if things went differently. So he agrees to help Roberts find the evidence he needs to free the control the "Project" has over him. His only contact is Mary Walker who went under the same kind of experiment. This all happens in #109 and it's not a bad way to kick off the plot.

Has anyone else read this?

I read the trade and I expect I have the MCP issues. Remember it as a pretty good story but nothing groundbreaking.

It was poetic that Logan wanted to save Mary and Roberts. I was little happy when Roberts didn't kill that delivery guy he called to free him from Logan's house. Apparently he was able to block out the "voice" in his head by singing. I enjoy these types of stories that deal with Logan bringing the manipulating "big wigs" to justice, it was kind of cool when they found all those tapes that deal with the experiments done to Roberts and Mary.

It was interesting that Logan could smell a difference between Typhoid Mary and Mary Walker. I felt a little bit bad for the good Mary when Logan told her never to touch him again. I don't blame Logan not one little bit, but you can see she was sincerely resentful of her evil persona. From my first read through this series, it's possible Logan and Marry Walker might of had sex. Or at least "made out" for a little bit.

Also thought it was interesting that it is more then a usual split personality problem going on with Mary. Apparently she and Typhoid have different heart beat patterns and other differences that made the scientist speculate it was two different overlapping brains.

I was bit surprised to find out Typhoid has pyrokinesis type powers. I like how the plot makes you question whether the experiments changed these people who use to be good. Or were they always evil and the experiments just gave them the nudge they needed. Of course I tend to lean toward that the notion that they were once good people, turned into slaves for the government. However the book leaves that option for the reader to choose.

"The way they do it these days--The surgery, The implants, The chemicals-- It's subtle, so sophisticated.... Once They've worked on your head, you never know who you are again."
-Logan trying to comfort Mary Walker.

I actually have Typhoid as one of Logan's lovers. It seemed to me that they were together.

I wish the Astonishing Tales Wolverine story was this interesting. It may of not been mind blowing, but it was complex enough to be interesting. I felt pretty bad for Roberts when he killed himself. And the mastermind scientist named Sid was a really sadistic villain. He kept taunting Logan about hypocrisy, mocking how he considers himself to be a hero and yet let's Typhoid get away with her crimes. There was some really intense material present in this little story.

Also it was sad how Logan was present in that motel located in the slums in the beginning. And then Roberts comments that the destiny for experimented victims is to either commit suicide or end up in the dirty hotel rooms alone like Logan. Something about the way it was said it the book gave me chills.

Roberts

He was an agent/victim of the Project, and served as an assassin for years. He apparently had a history of psychoses and sociopathic behavior his whole life. One day after killing a man (a former agent of the Project), he broke free from his programming and contacted Wolverine, believing him to be sympathetic to the idea of psychi reprogramming. Logan subdued and bound him, but he escaped and began a killing spree. Logan attempted to track him down, but was interrupted when he felt the need to go after Typhoid instead. By the time Logan finally tracked him down, Roberts had committed suicide to end the voices in his head.

Dr. Sidney Joern

He is the other leader of the Fortress. He may be the ultimate director, but he maintains discussion with Dr. Hoffner regarding what actions to take. In addition, they play some sort of strategy game in an effort to destroy the DNA of the other. Sidney was the head of the Project which created agents such as Roberts. He coerced his men to scientists to cross the moral line to do so by various psychological manipulations. Typhoid Mary attempted to force Dr. Sidney Joern to cure her of her multiple personality disorder. He agreed under duress, but once he had her at her mercy during the process, he attempted to manipulate her mind to his own desires. Wolverine stopped him, and when Sidney attempted to manipulate Wolverine into letting him go, Logan beheaded him. Scientists of the Project were able to save his mind by preserving him as an isolated head, surviving in a nutrient bath with a variety of support catheters, etc.
