I was hoping we could write out a complete list of all the confirmed government agencies Logan worked for before the X-Men and before Weapon X. Below is a list of what I came up with on my own, but your assistance would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully we can gather all the times Logan has ever played the Government Spook angle.
  • Hudson Bay Company (1900's , 1910's)
  • Canadian Military (1910's / 1920's)
  • Merchant Marine (1930's)
  • First Canadian Parachute Battalion / Devil's Brigade (Early 1940's)
  • Freelance Operative (Spider-Man vs Wolverine)
  • Landau, Luckman and Lake (Logan: Path of the Warlord) Late 1940's
  • Team X, a black ops unit. (Maverick and Creed) (1950's / 1960's)
  • CIA Operative (Carol Danvers, Nick Fury, Charlemagne) (1950's)
  • Canadian Intelligence (Before Weapon X) (1950's / 1960's )
  • Canadian Special Services (Fury #1)
  • Canadian Defense Ministry (Before Weapon X)
  • Department H ,Canadian Intelligence (During Alpha Flight) (1970's)

I'm pretty sure Logan never officaly worked for S.H.I.E.L.D, at least not until the Enemy of the State saga.

During this time period Logan made several allies, while shady military and government powers took advantage of him. In comics from the 80's and 90's it has been said in more then one Wolverine issue that these agencies he worked for screwed around with his memory. Little things like hypnotic suggestion, memory tempering, and all kinds of brain control. I wonder how much of these adventures was actually Logan steering control of his own life. It's funny that he still uses his connections to these secret agencies during the present titles though.

It's a small wonder Logan walked away with so much baggage though, I'm sure all those top-secret missions did a number to his sanity.

There's always a hint that in Canadian Intelligence he was involved with Department K (Logan: Shadow Society, a truly excellent read)

Don't forget the most recent addition, Logan working in the 50s with and against the Agents of Atlas.

Honestly i have no idea how Logan can be a secret agent.
I mean, you walk into a bar and you glance around, the first person you'll stare at for a bit will be a small hairy canadian bloke who had his 15th bottle of beer.

All he has to do is seduce all the women and shoot/stab things. Haven't you ever watched James Bond?

Also remember in Classic X-Men #25 Logan was still doing black ops work after he joined the X-Men, although it is never stated which agency.

Logan has all his fingers in to many pies it's hard to call them all off and say he's teaching kids how to fight a guy in a cape with a bucket on his head.

Plus Logan has such extensive experience and connections within the intelligence and superhero communities that if called upon he has worked for and with everyone.
