Oh, I forgot to add Dr. Manhattan to my heavy hitter team, so good call. Imagine if an uber-villian was attacking the city and you looked up in the sky and saw Superman, Captain Marvel, Martian Manhunter, Mister Majestic, Supreme, Apollo, Hyperion, the Sentry, Dr. Manhattan and Gladiator from the Imperial Guard coming to save the day it would be a little unnerving, but ultimately awe-inspiring, and reassuring because you knew that these guys would save the day. Wolverine, Batman (from Dark Knight Returns), and Rorschach, Ghostrider, Punisher, the Comedian, and Midnighter working together as a team for me is just extremely frightening. It all goes back to a previous post that discussed how Wolverine is perceived by the public. Is he seen as a hero or villain? You have to remember that if super-heroes operated in public like they do in the comics they might be perceived as almost demi-gods by the average person. For those who have not read them I recommend reading DC’s Kingdom Come graphic novel and the novelization by Elliot S. Maggin, Marvel Comics graphic novel entitled Marvels to get a good idea of the common man’s perspective regarding super-heroes. |
