Ghost Rider. Wolverine. Punisher. The Dark Design.

Writer: Howard Mackie
Artist: Ron Garney

This story focuses a lot on Lucy Crumm who was introduced in the Heart of Darkness three years prior. In the previous story she was saved by Wolverine, Ghost Rider, and the Punisher from the clutches of Blackheart. The first book pulled off a story about demons without coming off too "dark" and morbid. However in my opinion the Dark Design tries too hard to mimic the success in Hearts of Darkness, even if it suppose to be a strong follow up to the already established story.

The three characters once again congregate at Christ's Crown to save Lucy Crumm. A majority of the town's inhabitants have been transformed into the Corrupt and proceed to kill everyone who doesn't convert. A single touch by these infected citizens turns you into one of them, only Ghost Rider is able to resist the touch. How close combat fighters like Wolverine aren't infected is beyond me. A few hard to swallow moments like this example are present through out the book.

A few moments are rehashes of the previous book, such as Blackheart putting each of the heroes in a "dark place". At least Wolverine is able to fight it off before anyone else, however the scene is still kind of "meh". We're also reintroduced to the same theme from the first book, acknowledging that Wolverine, Ghost Rider, and the Punisher come close to going over the edge but never go over it. They walk the line that few heroes can. This fact that they can look into the abyss and stand their ground is what is such a threat to Blackheart.

Knowing that Blackheart was responsible for the murder of her mom and everyone in her hometown, I really don't get how Lucy could forgive Blackheart at the end of this book. The ending seems a little too "forced" and it really effected by enjoyment of this book. The art is good but I really don't like how Wolverine had red eyes for no reason. I do like having Christ's Crown revisited and I like how they brought back Lucy, but I wish they focused on a new evil villain this time around.

I do wish Howard would continue this story with a new plot and direction. The ending left too may loose ends and we don't even know if Christ's Crown reverted back to normal. Or if the infected citizens were saved or were left to wander earth. When did Blackheart get a drop of Lucy's blood, if it even was Lucy's blood? According to Blackheart Lucy was the only innocent soul in the city which means it had to be her blood. Did he cut her when he held the dagger to her throat? Maybe it was censored (Comic Code).

i do like a team of three of the most bad-ass working together to take care of a little demon trouble.
Shame the story here has many plotholes, but i very much like want to readthis and the previous story.

Question: didn't we see a panel of these three gents in 'A Mile in my Moucasins' ?

Yes we do! Excellent memory. =)

And I believe they were all fighting demons together. :AWSM: This like another team for Wolverine, only it doesn't have an offical team name.

Well Logan had bone claws from 1993 to 2000

That's over five years of titles with Logan using bone claws in. It was amazing that Marvel held their ground for so long, not giving into the millions of demands they must of received.
