![]() Issue #62 is a very insightful and fun What If issue to read. The art tries to imitate Barry Windsor Smith's style and doesn't fail at delivering the same murky style that was in those Weapon X issues. The story focuses on a alternate reality where Logan doesn't become Weapon X and doesn't get admantium grafted onto his bones and claws. I immensely enjoy the one shots like Logan: Shadow Society and Logan: Path of the Warlord. So I have to say that this is one of my favorite What If stories of all time. Mostly because we see Logan confident that he can control his own animal rage, we also see him succeed in exposing Professor Truett Hudson and Doctor Cornelius to the media. Stories that focus on Logan's days where he didn't use his claws are very cherished by me, because I like the stories where it shows he can kick ass without relying on his claws. I go out of my way to read stories where Logan can use only a samurai blade or twin daggers, and still come out victorious in the end. One neat thing about this story is that we get to see the original prototype for the Flight which appeared in the first Alpha Flight Special. Without Logan to lead them they are even more untrained and scattered then we've previously seen. Their first mission ends up tracking down a new and more dangerous Weapon X who ended up being a former Canadian mounty and Marine. (Named Guy Desjardins .) How this guy doesn't die from Adamanitum poisoning? Either he also has some kind of mutant power or the writers just didn't care. Yet despite the Adamanitum poisoning plot hole I'm still able to enjoy this book regardless. It is just too much fun to see that Logan can defeat what the Weapon X project did to him. It is very symbolic in that it's never been the adamantium claws that made Logan useful or powerful. It was the man inside that always was triumphant. This book can be viewed from many different perspectives, however this is one angle that really won me over in the end. Plus we get to see characters who disappeared for a long time, such Alpha Flight members as Stich and St. Elmo.
