Daken recently revealed that he has a level of empathic ability during his battle with Cyber, using his powers to drive him to brink, and explaining that he could sense what other's were feeling and even force them to feel more of it. This brings into question weather his other abilities are simply hereditary (because of the recent revelation of the Homo Lupus.) or that this is his mutant ability. Daken has been heavily and irreversibly brainwashed. All his life he was forced to believe to have no moral regret about killing, which he’s done for professional reasons for a long time. In his appearances he’s seen murdering many people for the services of his manipulators. His manipulators have trained and honed Daken's abilities in hand to hand combat and various forms of martial arts. He is and excellent hand to hand fighter although his full training is unrevealed, he has beaten the likes of Deadpool and Cyber, but probably his biggest victory is against his father, Wolverine [who is one of the best fighters in the world if not the best in the world]. Daken has been through at the very least fifty years of brainwashing, covert opt missions, and battling other professional assassins, there is no telling how many deadly fighting techniques Daken has picked up along the way.  My opinion: Since Daken was born around 1946, there is a lot of stories that can make this character work. I believe he has potential to become a likable character despite awesome people like jrpbsp don't like him. I think once he is developed more by Bendis and other talented writers, he will start to reflect redeeming qualities and likable character traits. Sort of like how Deadpool evolved even though he was a unlikeable cold blooded killer at first.  Spoiler: click to toggle  What do you like about Daken? |

I first got introduced to the charecture in Dark Avengers issue 1 actually since i dont pick up Origins. I like the charecture so far. |

 I like how it was revealed that Daken has no interest in killing his father, the last issue of Wolverine Origins pretty much proved that. The only reason he got the Muramasa blade grafted to his third claw was to kill Romulus. Knowing that makes me like him even more. I suppose him joining the Dark Avengers was to piss off his dad, piss off Romulus, and earn some extra dough.

 At least he doesn't have identical hair to his father. He supposedly appeared in Dark Reign Hawkeye #1, so now I have to go track down a copy of that.

Even though he never met his mom, he has probably had extensive "conditioning" to value her existence more then anyone else. Similar to how Logan has always wanted to "know who he is" and get revenge on the "weapon X" program. Really it isn't that different from Logan's quest for vengeance so long ago. I imagine he was made to believe for decades that if his mother hadn't died, he wouldn't be where he is right now.

Why does Daken only use his front two claws in DA? In New avengers issue 50 he popped all three of them though, but i think it depends form artist to artist. |

 I imagine right now he only uses the two claws to protect the third one. Now that the third one is encased in the Muramasa blade, if he breaks it on a unbreakable foe, he destroys his chance to kill Romulus. So I am assuming that he is saving the third claw under his wrist to stab Romulus with. That is my assumption anyways.  It seems he shares his father's vulnerability for psychic women too.
