Well he is still stoppable. But Logan has had some great berserker moments when in the hands of good writer. My personal favorite is when he killed Magneto / Xorn in New X-Men. Here is another good one. Oddly this isn't Ultimate Wolverine, this is just a costume he had for a brief bit. Thanks to Jinzin for all the scans he provided me today. Have you ever enjoyed seeing Logan fly off the handle?

Honestly I am still partial to the first real one we saw when he cuts loose against Kierrok the N'Garai demon. |

I like it when he is ashamed of the times "he loses control", I'm not too fond of the times the writers made him embrace it. It's sort of cheesy when he has to resort to his "rage" in order to win a fight. The best times Logan has ever won a fight where the times he won because of skill or because he used his intelligence. It's cool that he has it to fall back on when he has no other choice. But I'm more of a fan of his fighting skills.

They use it too often as the way he does win though. Ever since Kitty Pryde and Wolverine where he had to go insane to bet Ogun it's used as his ultimate trump card. Yeah I would prefer that he beat his opponent through skill and intelligence. |

When he first went really "nuts" it was in this image below right? The one where he was fighting Lady Deathstrike in a snow storm and one of the Power Pack was with him? I remember Logan was hurt so bad that he couldn't even talk. I suppose she was tracking him from after the events in Alpha Flight #34?

I believe it was way back in Uncanny when he took down Kierrok. All his team mates were just standing there stunned after he went off. |

I feel the berserker rage should be his trump card, but it's handled badly by too many writers these days. Writers today inaccuratly characterize Wolverine as an easily fooled, sloppy moron when he goes berserk. As much as I really dont like what Dan Way has done in Origins he is one of the few people that have a handle on Wolverine's berserker mode. As Deadpool said, "I didn't count on him being mad... and smart." The berserker rage really shouldn't be used very often IMO. If Wolverine is fighting the Hulk or some other uber opponent or a powerful telepath, then drool away, but he shouldn't ever go berserk fighting Spidey or Shang-Chi. I think it needs to go back to being Wolverine's reluctant trump card that is used only in the most dire circumstances... or when he's fighting a large number of enemies. Lets face it, berserk Wolvy against 300 badguys is just fun to read. I also think more focus should be put on the costs of him going berserk. There used to be a real threat of Wolverine's feral regression, which no one really remembers anymore. Every time Wolverine goes berserk it should take more willpower to pull him back out of it. I'd really like for someone to make this the basis for their Wolverine stories instead off the damn healing factor all the time. |

I agree with you there mate, i think the Beserker rage is the reluctant fighting style he has to use if nothing else works. A normal wolveirne can handle a mob of 10-15 people sure, but if he has to face a army, best chance for him is to go mental and butcher them all. Sort of like the X-force one shot 'Aint no Dog' , except he seemed to enjoy the killing. |

X-Force is the chance to cut loose and succumb to his darker side without being judged for it overtly. Now I do agree that he fights this side and does not like giving in most of the time but he has been shown to enjoy it since the beginning so I can understand liking the outlet. All the way back in Uncanny 143 Wolverine cut loose on an N'Garai demon and tore it up to the disgust of his team mates. |
