tsu is a woman from Japan. She met Wolverine when his master Ogun had send him there to train. Itsu and Logan soon fell in love with each other, and shortly afterward Itsu revealed to Logan that she was pregnant with his child. Logan wanted to celebrate and the town celebrated with them by giving a ceremony. Logan had to prove himself worthy of being a father in combat, but when he accidentally killed one of the fighters with his claws the entire town looked funny at him, including Itsu who was disappointed.

Logan wanted to leave but not before saying goodbye to Itsu first. When he returned to their self-build home, Itsu was already dead! Logan left immediately afterward, and many years later learned that the killer of his wife was none other than Winter Soldier on assignment.

she was very beautiful. I truly believe that Logan was attracted to Mariko because of his undying love for Itsu. (Even decades later.) How do you feel about her?

Nothing but a cannon fodder character. She wasn't developed enough for me to care or feel Logan's pain when she bit the dust.

At least Itsu and Logan married together and enjoyed a brief moment of happiness.

I don't even think Mariko and Logan had sex together. They were never allowed to live together or to even experience the joys of a true couple. From what we see it is possible I am wrong, but nothing has been confirmed beyond the vague glimps we've seen.

"Nothing but a cannon fodder character...." My feelings, exactly! There was hardly any story with her...or reason to feel anything about her. "Wham, bam, happiest man on earth." This whole set-up was just too cliché to care.

Also, it didn't appear in the story that he did anything more than accidently cut one of the other dancers. It is not shown that he killed anyone at this celebration. Just the fact that he popped his claws and injured someone was enough to disgrace him in everyone's eyes...even so-called "love-of-his life," Itsu. The villagers turned their backs on him, and she did, too. Undying love for Itsu? She's not shown as even being worthy of undying love. I never got any real sense in this rushed story that there was any great love for him on her part...just a pregnant sex partner and plot device created only to generate Daken...who is much more important to Way's storyline. Shallow...extremely shallow!

There's so much more development, charactization, and history with Mariko, whether they ever had sex or not. There's far more evidence of an undying love for Mariko than there ever was for this dimensionless diversion.

You are also comparing her to a character who has been around for over 20 years. You are setting your standards waaaaaay too high and expect someone who was introduced a little over three years ago to have as much development as someone who was introduced in the early 80's. Those kind of standards are a little too high if you ask me.

High standards? After three years, there doesn't seem to be any indication that there's going to be any more "development" of this character. Itsu seems to have served her purpose --the "dead wife plot device."

You might be right.

However since she does play a essential key element of Daken's past, I would hope that we would see more of her in stories where he is the primary focus. Afterall. Rose could be viewed as a plot element /fodder for Logan in Origin right? But isn't Rose mentioned again and again in various other Wolverine stories? I don't see any difference.

^o^; Good discussion though and I see where you are coming from.

The thing is, Daken never met his mother and thus could not create a bound with her like Logan had with Rose.
All we do know is he's willing to defend her honor, even against Ares the god of war himself.

I know. But don't forget that Logan forgot who Rose is, but that didn't stop other writers from bringing her back through various other characters and stories. (Wolverine: The End, Paradise X, The Logan Files, etc) Rose is often mentioned even though she is dead and will most likely never come back.

I'm just saying that it is possible writers will continue to use Itsu, if they feel it serves a purpose in Daken's own series. Apparently Daken loved her enough to wage war against the one person he fears and respects the most. So even though he didn't meet her, he still knows what she looks like and interacted with a memory of her through Charles Xavier. But who knows? Maybe I am absolutely wrong about all of this.
