What is your opinion of Mariko? Was she Logan's one and only true soul mate? Will Logan ever be able to love someone as much as he loved Mariko? ![]() Mariko as she appeared in the Exiles. ![]() Logan mourning her death. |

I like the Logan Mariko relationship and wish it had lasted. But I think Wolverine is too complex That said I always have held out hope for a Wolverine/Jean relationship. He's pined for her long enough and she has always seemed to complex and interesting to be stuck with a one note boyscout like Scott |

I am just venturing a guess but I think that Mariko might have been a latent mutant, because her alternate reality counter-part from the Exiles had powers like Sunfire. Since the 616 universe Mariko had the same family connections she might have had a similar genetic potential, but it was just dormant. |

I've always thought highly of Mariko and her bond with Wolverine and I feel it to be the end-all, be-all, but other writers still tie him to the memory of Jean (which I am not of fan of this pairing) and now we have Itsu, a woman he loved enough to settle down and conceive a child with. Makes me wonder now if Mariko may have reminded Logan (with his lack of memory) of Itsu on some subconscious level? Edited by Brian Knippenberg, May 5 2009, 10:34 PM.

That would make sense. After all he loved japan and fell in love with it before the memory wipe. Edited by Gorvar, May 6 2009, 02:03 AM.

I thought so highly on the Mariko and Logan love bond. I wished Mariko stayed alive, I mean I loved the most favorite mini-series of all time the Wolvering first solo series. Where it shows Wolverine his samurai honor, conquering his animal instinct and the love of his life Mariko. I just wished she lived longer, she was Wolverine's original love interest and his greatest love unlike with Jean Grey. His relationship with Mariko was pure love. I've heard about the new Wolverine Movie supposed to be based on the 4-ISSUED Soloed Wolverine series. I hope this time in the movie Mariko doesn't die. I also wish she gets to be brought back to life as a mutant, like her cousin Sunfire. Edited by Wolverine-X23, Nov 14 2009, 10:43 AM.

I liked their bond a lot, especially since the core of it was mainly honor and mutual respect, which something you barely see in realtionships, real-life ones included! I really hate how they meandered about it until finally Mariko was murdered, in something that was one of the worst Wolverine issues ever (Not just because of her death, but the whole plot seemed put together for the sake of having that issue and selling it...random android fight, Jubilee in trouble..again.. and the Hand sieges everyone on top of everything...ugh) While reading through the Essentials, I kinda looked up to their relationships and thought it was nice to know that our ruff`n`gruff Canadian stray had a special someone on the other side of the world, a noble, respectful, endearing presence, a "gentle someone" to inspire him and mentally pull him through his ordeals. It was his kind of relationship - Logan was free to roam the Earth (and outer space) with the X-men, while Mariko cleaned her family`s name. Simple, elegant. I also liked how Claremont omitted the lust element; I would associate this with the time Logan said he was going 'hunting' and got upset that Storm read him wrong, thinking he was intending to kill his quarry. It was these little details that gave us, the readers, insight into Wolverine`s heart, before they days of 'RAWR' and berserker rages twice an issue, that is... |

I did like Mariko, she is my favorite of all of Wolverine's girlfriends. Though it did feel a bit rushed, after the Limited suddenly they were getting married? But it worked, or rather they worked as a couple. She was strong but still vulnerable and definitely brought out the best in Logan. He needs someone who is tough but also gentle to help off set his own personality. |

I do wished if Mariko had lived, she would like developed to be strong and tough fighter yet gentle to someone. It would be awesome she has mutant powers like her counterpart Mariko in Exiles. If her cousin Sunfire and her Half-Brother Silver Samurai has mutant powers I don't see why not Mariko wouldn't have them. I think Mariko would have Healing Factors like Logan. I think Mariko would be good with swords. It would be nice, I mean if Mariko has healing factor like Logan there love will last much more longer. Edited by Wolverine-X23, Nov 16 2009, 06:28 PM.

Well I kind of liked her as a normal human, it said that Wolverine wanted to have a life outside of mutants and heroes. But for survivability yeah I could see giving her an ability so long as she did not join the X-Men. He needs someone outside of that life. |
