It is, Gabe.

I got the book this morning, very good. I've never read anything written by Keith before but he captures Logan's voice perfectly and it's a morbidly sweet story. Recommended.

The story was really good. If you ever read the Maxx you might know what to expect. The art style definitely takes a open mind and a acquired taste. This is not to say that it's bad, but Sam Kieth's style is definitely unique.

In the beginning we find Logan traveling via airplane when his plane crashed unexpectedly for unknown reasons. I assume Logan crashed in Canada somewhere, if the exact location is revealed I must of missed it. Logan is greeted by Po who can manifest herself into Logan's consciousness, she begs Logan to help her save her father who is drowning. However Po doesn't tell Logan the whole truth and ends up leading Logan to her "Uncle Bruce" instead. (Also known as the Hulk) Poor Wolverine ends up waking up the Hulk, who is annoyed that he had his beauty sleep interrupted.

While Logan may be a victim of circumstance in this scenario, Po knows the Bruce Banner from back before he turned into the Hulk. Her father was a major supporter of Bruce's work and Bruce is also Po's godfather. So she begs Logan to help turn the Hulk back into Bruce Banner by calming him down, which is not so easy for poor old Logan given the past these two share. If anything this book proves to Wolverine fans and haters, is that Wolverine can restrain himself for someone else if he really wants to. Logan's attempts to calm down the Hulk is hysterical, and I'm proud to say that he does figure out a way to get on the Hulks good side by the end of the book.

Logan tries reasoning with the Hulk several times in the beginning of the book, however the Hulk can't see Po at first which also means he can't see the invisible person Logan is talking to. This infuriates the Hulk for some reason and gives the Hulk motivation to pound in Logan's face. Po begs Logan to resist the temptation to fight him and this causes Logan to retreat. Eventually the Hulk turns back to Banner and he is horrified to admit that Po died years ago. It seems that her ghost is unable to rest, because of the guilt that she hasn't "undid" her father's parachute strap. It seems she can never rest until Logan and the Hulk find the remains of the plane and her dad's body, yet they have to play along with the fantasy that she is still alive.

I have to admit that Sam Kieth is excellent at pulling your heart strings, you really do feel bad for poor Po and her relationship with Bruce Banner. The story is sometimes told through "child drawings", there is one off panel one of Po counting the hairs on Wolverines arm and back. If you are anything like me, Po will have you laughing out loud a bit. I definitely reccomend this story to anyone who enjoys seeing both the Hulk and Wolverine reveal a softer side, especially when it comes to adorable little ghost children.

Really not a fan of the Sam Keith/Maxx artwork style and I do own the entire Maxx series. Just never really got into it as an art style. The story was ok though. Fairly unique and entertaining although I'm not much of a fan of kids being put into stories just for the sake of emotion and or cuteness.

Cool, but that wasn't for your benefit. If I came into this thread not knowing what Sam Keith's art looked like, I'd think that was a page from this mini. :)

More Wolverine from Sam Keith, please. He hasn't done it (or any Marvel?) regularly since MCP. A Wolverine Keith story some may have overlooked or missed is X-MEN UNLIMITED #9 - a decent tale from '05 written by current UNCANNY scribe Matt Fraction with a couple of classic Wolverine moments interpreted by Keith.

Also, when looking up the specific issue I stumbled across Newsarama's funny interview with Fraction.
Matt Fraction

Man, I phoned it all in, knowing that Sam kicks enough ass for the two of us or, failing that, he could at least carry my punk ass and make me look good. I don’t even think I wrote in complete sentences in the script. It was, like, WOLVERINE CLAWS FIGHT SENTINEL SPLODE SAD LOGAN THINKING THEN KILLING! AARRGH.

That line right there is page four of my script.

I have gone ahead and cleared off shelf-space for the Eisner.
