I am curious what Wolverine appearance was the one that made you a life-long Wolverine fan? Mine was (Uncanny) X-Men #111 when Wolverine was chained up in the circus of Mesmero. "The links and shackles forged of the hardest steel money can buy, guaranteed unbreakable yet Wolverine never yields... The fight has sparked a response deep within him, a primal, elemental need that's been at the core of Wolverine's being all his life. A need to be free!" After Wolverine escapes, he grabs a guard, adding this immortal exchange... "Sing, canary, 'fore I count t' five -- I or pop my claws!" "You-- you're bluffin'!" "One, four, fi--" "I'll talk! I'll talk!" Thirty years later and it still brings a grin to my face. |

Me, it was the 90s cartoon X-Men, that's how I knew about Marvel and the X-Men. I was a kid and I told myself that if Cyclops was the leader then he was the must powerful, but for some reason I was very interested in Wolverine, and the first episode that I liked the most was when Wolverine rescued the X-Men from the Hellfire Club and did get his revenge against Harry Leland. Later when I discovered the comics, I was disappointed about Wolverine's violence, and the fact he smocked cigars too. I was getting used until D. Way appeared and created Wolverine: Origins. |

That is too funny! It'll be interesting to see what everyone else says. I think for a whole generation of folks, it was the cartoon that DF mentioned. Makes sense... since it rocked at the time! |

Absolutely the cartoon. I think I was hooked the second I seen him bursting through that danger room wall. As a kid, the bad-ass that does what he wants and has pointy things coming out of his hands is a big draw; but even as a young child I liked that he was funny and a hero that cares about his friends and sticks up for others. I guess he rang more true to me becuase even though he wasn't always nice he was one of the good guys.

So for folks keeping score at home, that's two for (Uncanny) X-Men #111 and two for the X-Men cartoon. |

Wolverine #16 from vol. 1 (or is it vol. 2?). I think I bought from a drug store rack because i wanted something new and interesting to copy from when drawing and that cover just popped. I carried that comic everywhere I went. I guess I should give that book credit for teaching me how to draw as well. I started reading/collecting about six months later. I really enjoyed the Bad @ss Hero that will cross the legal line for the sake of good. Then I fell in love with the complexities of Logan; for example the failed samurai looking to regain honor and drop the self loathing. |

EmperorVamp... Do you still draw? Have anything online for us to peruse? I have no patience for drawing (wish I did)... guess that's why I write so much! |
