The original Blue and yellow with the Cockrum mask is the best design, but for Wolverine the best costume is the brown/ochre look. I'm also fond of the costume from X-MEN: EVOLUTION. |

I'm not sure why, but the Brown/Gold toggs hold a special place in my heart.; probably due to the mini-series. |

Hmm...I like the modern take on the old blue and yellow cos--uniform! I know it`s really flashy for a guy with berserker rages, but somehow I really like it!

While I voted for the Astonishing John Cassaday drawn costume, that's actually not indicative of his modern costume. He drew it one way, whereas just about every other artist in every other book (including Wolverine's solo series) drew it in a different manner. The overall suit was similar, but Mr. Cassaday drew his gloves and boots differently. And depending on the artist the blue patch on both outer legs either extended from the belt to the knee, or from the belt to the boot. John Cassaday's Wolverine set the original precedent in Astonishing X-Men. John Romita Jr's Wolverine from "Enemy of the State" is the design that redefined the precedent for most artists to come. This design by Humberto Ramos is a hybrid of the two, and the regular compromise. For those who don't care for Ramos's art, this may be a better example. These designs were later adapted into the Wolverine and the X-Men animated series. The current trend at Marvel is to do a modern, more stylized and simplified variant of the classic costumes with their characters, as seen in the following examples: Rogue (90s) became Rogue (90s-Modern). And alternatively Rogue (Classic) became Rogue (Classic-Modern). You'll find this trend to be present in most modern character designs. I'm quite fond of the practice. I'm not however a fan of the more recent X-designs for Fraction/Brubaker's Uncanny X-Men, and Warren Ellis' Astonishing X-Men. I find most of them to be overly busy. They have some of the same stylistic elements of the Cassaday-era designs, but with many more bobbles and overall visual clutter. I prefer the simplified minimalism of the previous designs. The X-Men: Evolution costume was also interesting, I'm quite partial to it. It contained many of the stylistic elements of the modern Wolverine look, with a color scheme that was closer to the tan and brown. I was disappointed when they stopped using it in the series.
