What do you think about Wolverine's reputation in the Marvel Universe. I think a lot of other super heroes respect him, since he has taken down his share of feared and dangerous villains.

But his reputation in the public eyes must really suck. Think back to Enemy of the State and what he did in Origins and Endings. He attacked the freaking White House! I don't understand why the police aren't chasing him down, or even vigilante's like the Punisher making him priority number one. (Unless he is that scary that people with guns rather not.)

Sure he was part of the offical Avengers team for a little bit, but then he immediately became associated with the outlaw Avengers that Luke Cage created. So that is one more reason why I think he is someone that isn't admired or looked up to. Maybe the mutant children think good of him, but not for the majority of the human populace. I remember Iron Man was scanning Logan from his suit and he noted : "Logan. What crime hasn't he committed?"

He sure has a lot of respect from other superheroes, but I think it's probably a good share of fear in it. Who likes to mess up with six razor sharp claws and a hell of temper?

He got a lot of help and cover from Nick Fury when he was in charge of S.H.I.E.L.D. and I think also from Maria Hill. But now?

It was hinted at an interview (I don't remember which one) that he'll get some trouble with the law this year. Remember Manifest Destiny #4? The police records him as the new leader of the local Triad.

That's an interesting question, and I'd have to say it depends on what circles the characters in the Marvel universe run in.

From a superhero publicity standpoint he's one of the most well known and "beloved" X-Men, in concept. Molly Hayes from Runaways had posters of Wolverine, and for a time idolized him. Judging from that I'd say that he's well known, but that the public likely doesn't know anything of his true nature. When Molly met Logan after years of being an adoring fan she found him to be quite abrasive.

From an Avengers standpoint he's likely not as well known because the New Avengers have kept a relatively low profile since their inception. They had only one real public appearance shortly before the superhero Civil War disbanded the team and the government sanctioned Avengers teams were put into place (Mighty, and later Dark).

The world governments are all quite familiar with the character. He's worked with countless superhero and government-based groups over the years, and it seems like many of them look at Logan as a weapon they can use at their leisure. We can assume just about every government organization has their eyes on Logan in some capacity. Especially since when Logan's memory was restored various members of the world governments killed themselves.

As a public enemy he'd also be quite infamous. He was a part of the superhero Civil War anti-registration group. He teamed with the New Avengers which are an illegal superhero team. His actions in Enemy of the State received mass news coverage. And not long before that Weapon X used him to assassinate a government official and pinned the murder on Logan quite publicly. Though the latter two events were swept under the rug by Nick Fury.

And it goes without saying, he's a member of the X-Men. Even at their most popular public opinion levels (during Grant Morrison's New X-Men run when mutants were slowly becoming the dominant population), they were still on shaky ground in the public eye. Human/mutant tensions are always at a boil, and Logan being one of the most prominent X-Men is at the forefront of that.

There do seem to be some civilians in the Marvel universe who don't know who he is however. For a recent example of this see the issue of Wolverine: Origins where he commandeers a man's truck. That person seemingly had no idea who Wolverine was, even though he was in full costume. One can chalk that up to a writing tool.

From an in-continuity stand point I'll assume that everyone is aware of superheroes/supervillains, but not everyone knows the specific members of any given super group. And to certain people all of the various "costumed freaks" likely blend together.

costumes are costumes to many civi's in the MU.
Again Media will be biased on who is in control (SHIELD, HAMMER ENCTR...)

I think everyone in the MU who has crossed paths with Logan would agree on one thing:

"He sure loves to show off his claws, doesn't he?"
