A cell, let's not go nuts
I say back when his brain is still working in his skull.
It was a mild unfounded exaggeration, I admit. However he has done the following: A) Healed back from being a skeleton. Which, since his skeleton is laced with adamantium I can only assume either part of his brain was still intact or there was cellular residue on the metal. B) Healed back from a drop of blood. I haven't read the story myself, but apparently it is fairly infamous. And C) although I don't recall it properly, wasn't he once thrown into the sun and survived?

We never really knew the limits of his healing factor, but the fact that he was able to heal back into existence from a single drop of blood with his pre-Guggenheim storyline healing factor is fairly damning evidence.

The single drop of blood is fairly infamous and comes from X-Men Annual #11 by Chris Claremont and Alan Davis. It does involve a magic gem and all, but still.

Not sure if he was ever thrown into the Sun. Didn't it look that way with Jean Grey during the Morrison run?

My biggest frustration with the 'Logan Dies' storyline, the attempt to pull back his healing abilities, is that writers have seemingly ignored it. 'Get Mystique' came out right after that and Wolverine is blown up dead a couple of times.

I thoroughly enjoy the medium healing factor that allows Wolverine to show off his courage and will, instead of his stupidity and healing ability. Hopefully 'Manifest Destiny' will point the way to him fighting like a world-class fighter again.

I'm not ready to write it off as ignored quite yet. So far, yes, he's taken damage, but it was damage that was closer to the level he was inflicted to early on in the character's published history. The next time he heals back from blood, or a skeleton, or perhaps is decapitated... that's when I'll finally begrudgingly say it has been ignored.

My feeling is that with his current healing factor as long as most of his brain is intact and he's not blown to itty bitty pieces, he'll probably heal.

You are correct.

Horde did indeed kill Wolverine, but the only reason he was resurrected from a drop of blood was because of this Cosmic Crystal that Horde was using. I explained more about it in the link I just posted here.

But at the same time let's not forget that horrible horrible annual story that should be retconned along with Loeb's story. I mean molten lave should kill Logan, not if's and's or but's about it.

edit:
Looks like I was too late to answer the question, so I'll contribute with this:

I was under the impression that Phoenix used her super duper powers to resurrect Logan.

I only know my brain story is true because he came back to life from being a skeleton in the civil war issues and he would be permantly dead if you cut off his head.

Wolverine fights a group of X-men mindcontrolled by Mesmero. It takes all of them combined plus an annoyed Mesmero to finally drop Logan.

In this one he uses his speed and stealth to make X-Force surrender.
