Got a question for Chris? Ask Chris Claremont about X-MEN FOREVER at ComicMix. I'm trying to think of one but am drawing blanks.
Did Claremont originally want Jean and Logan to end up together as a couple?

=)

I can think of a couple but of course I can't get there from here. Most comic sites are blocked.

Well we've know that for a while. He's been on the promo art since the beginning. I was expecting him to be in the second issue since they offed Logan already.

Doesn`t it seemed a bit forced to have Logan die right from the first issue? Claremont put him through some pretty bad situations and now BAM, he`s dead for good? I just have a hard time buying that.

I have felt this was forced yes, as well as suddenly Logan and Jean pining for each other like a couple of love struck teenagers. While Logan certainly loved Jean he kept it controlled and she never was shown to have that strong of a feeling for him. Mostly deep friendship with a healthy dose of lust.

Yeah, that`s another thing. They`re acting as if they`ve actually been together, or as if the classic Scott/Jean thing was just an on-and-off thing. I understand Claremont going for the alternative reality game, but his starting points are canon 616 stories...

Yeah it's almost implied from her little fantasy but unless he is going to retcon a few scenes of them together it doesn't fly. And if he is going to do that, seems silly he bothered to start it as a canon take off.

(I may be posting this Wolverine topic in the wrong place but I figure someone will hopefully respond back for future posts. That and please don't read this if you're a huge Claremont fan.)

"X-Men Forever #1" was the greatest w.. dream Chris Claremont ever had! First off, he hoped to kill Wolverine back in seventies instead of Thunderbird. This was during the "Count Neferia" storyline when the New team of X-Men. He was stopped by the fact Len Wein created the character NOT him! That, and John Byrne pushed very hard for the first Canadian superhero.

Mad at the fact he didn't have creative control to kill the uber masculine hero, he did something almost as good. This was the idea of what my friends and myself call "Wolverine, the mutant Punching Bag". Yeah, he loved doing this. Compared to most all of the women and possibly Colossus, he made Wolverine to be one of the X-Men's weakest members. Here's a few examples.

1. Jean Grey could simply levitate Logan into a live volcano or drop him from the upper atmosphere splattering his entire body to blackened and separated adamantium coated bones.

2. Rogue could backhand his head into next week. His bones my be close to unbreakable but the ligaments, tendons, cartilage and other flesh parts are not.

3. Psylocke has easily lobotomized him before, well not that easily.

4. Dazzler could zap head off from long range with no problem.

5. Storm could hit him with a F-5 tornado and make him resemble a bug on a windshield or simply electrocute him into pieces of fried wolverine (at least in Claremont's world)

6. Polaris might be able to rip out his metal like her father did and then/or surround him in a couple of tons of steel, magnetizing it or sealing his claws inside his forearms. Either way he would most likely drown unless he somehow mutated gills or the like. (Half joking there, different author's have done more crazy things before!)

7. Pheonix Jean Grey vs. Wolverine = complete and utter obliteration.

8. Dust vaporized him.

9. and the Beat goes, yeah the Beat goes down...........................

In the early nineties Mr. Claremont endevored to kill Logan in the new title "X-Men" early on but was denied again for the billioneth time and finally let go.(fired)

It's my humble opinion that Claremont actually help shaped a character that he, himself, loathed! It seems to me that he has forgotten that a lot of fans tend to root for an underdog,
especially one with a never surrender attitude. Wolverine isn't very physically strong compared to other Marvel superheros even DC! It is stated several times that Logan can press
only 800lbs. Xavier's part time girlfriend Lilandra, Clarmonts states she can bench 1,000. Does that mean she should would better fighting the Incredible Hulk? and the Beat go down.............There would be "No quarters asked and none given, in kind." Just gotta love those repeated "Claremont quotes", NOT!!! I wonder how many times quotes like that and talking his unbreakable bones in every issue. To me it's like explaining Batman's parents' murders and what drives him every day. Thank goodness DC doesn't explain his utility belt like this every issue.) Anyway, I'll quit my ranting. Thanks for reading this and hopefully you'll have a good day.
