For those of you who think 'Wolverine: Origins' is the a great addition to the Wolverine mythos, this thread is for you. In fact, I declare this thread for 'Wolverine: Origins' lovers only! So wax poetic about Daniel Way's five year saga through Wolverine's past... |

I like Origin, Logan and Origins. Its better then his main book. A lot of his old adventures were stupid and overated. His story WAS going to be told one way or the other with the movies and all, at the very least it being told finally in the comics was damage mitigation. I enjoy it very much |

Seems that the Thumbs down thread is winning ... I can't really say that I like this series very much, it's very heterogeneous. There were things I really liked and others that just don't fit in. And you have also to consider that villainy has changed very much in comic books. It seems that it's now an accepted character trait. They have their own books and just now made it in the official superhero team of the US. So retcon Wolverine into a villainous past is probably just some fad. We should wait to see if it adds to the character. And I really hope that they come up with some very good Romulus story because up to now this character is very bad. And because I post this in the thumbs up thread, a positive one: I liked very much the preview of Origins #33 at http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=preview&id=2085&disp=table |

I'm still not entirely sold on the idea of knowing everything there is to know about Wolverine's entire life. I like the mythos of a man, covered in blood, maniacally escaping from a secret laboratory after killing the mad scientist. A man with cybernetic knives made of pure Adamantium hidden inside of his arms and an Adamantium plated skeleton. Chosen for the ghastly procedure because he alone could survive it. A man eventually discovered and recruited by Professor Xavier to join his super hero team, the X-Men. And that's all we knew about him. Hell, that's all he knew, himself. There was no origin. No "rocket from Krypton", no "dead parents". Just what you see. That being said.. for the man with no past, there were never any shortage of stories written about it. I was always uneasy with how eager Marvel's writers were to fabricate a history for a man who was supposed to have total amnesia regarding anything prior to his escape from the laboratory. Then came Hama. Larry F***in' Hama. I'll still sock him in the stomach if'n I ever see him in a bar somewhere. They just couldn't leave well enough alone. Like all those jerks who have to write their two cents on Jim Morrison's gravestone. Enter "House of M" and I'm beginning to change my tune. Not much. Only by a note or two, but I'm starting to see Wolverine a little differently these days. Wolverine's origin isn't told in his first appearance, or his second, or even 35 years later. It leaks out over time. Almost like we're learning something that we're not supposed to know. Logan was a killer. If killing needed to happen, you sent in Logan. He was quick and methodical and professional. In any capacity. If someone needed to die, Logan would kill them. If someone needed to be made an example of, you sent in Creed. Leave Logan to his own, and he'll just shack up with some Blackfoot hottie and chop firewood and go fishin' all day. Subject him to violence, and he'll show you another side of his personality. A side so inured to blood and death that it barely seems human. A side that many feel was criminal... but that's a discussion for another thread. Daniel Way has alot riding on his shoulders with this gig. He shows up at signings with a police escort standing next to his table. He catches hell at 'em, too. I know. I gave him hell. So did the next person in line. The first time I saw him was after Origins #5. Everyone in line was asking about "Logan's son". Then it's my turn and I start in how he's just the next douchebag writer who can't seem to leave poor Silver Fox alone. It caught the man completely off guard. "So who the blankety-blank was the bleepin' Silver Fox from Team X, ya Blankety-bleepin'-blank!" "Sir, you're going to have to calm down or leave the store." "Up yours, pig! I wan't some answers Way!" OK, I didn't say that to the cop, but I did get in Danny boy's face. He assured me the Silver Fox from Team X would be addressed. Then I told him to write about Cyber, and he looked me in the eye and said Cyber was too obscure a character to write about and nobody cared about him anyway. What cajones. I've liked him ever since. He said in an interview recently that Wolverine's character has always been obsessed with the past. "Always looking in the rearview mirror." Origins will put his past to bed so Logan can concentrate on his future. I think Wolverine deserves the future. His past was hell. |

Funny, I remember back to a time when I didn't really want to know that much. The way Claremont wrote him before Weapon X was good enough for me. Edited by Brian Knippenberg, Mar 15 2009, 06:36 PM.

This is a thread for positive Wolverine reviews. LOL! Anyway. I think revealing the origin was a good idea, let's talk about the good and bad points of revealing the past here: http://forums.wolverinefiles.com/topic/1360430/1/ Just trying to keep the threads organized and on track since that is my job. |

Hey Brian, Not a problem! We decided to create several threads for Origins. This one is where fans can talk about how awesome the series is without fear of repercussions. You might want to visit the other one GZ mentioned where the non-fans can rip away without fear of offending anyone. |
