Daken is the son of Wolverine and his Japanese wife Itsu. Years later, his adopted father Romulus revealed to Daken that his father was still alive, but lied at the same time, telling Daken that it was Wolverine who had killed Itsu with Daken still inside her. In recent events he has discovered the truth and seeks vengeance for being manipulated over the decades. Now Daken has taken the name Wolverine for himself and wears a version of his father's brown and tan costume.

In the aftermath of the Skrull Invasion, Norman Osborn became head of the Fifty-State Initiative. He disbanded all three with different results. S.H.I.E.L.D. reformed into H.A.M.M.E.R. with Osborn as its Director. Now also in charge of the government sponsored Avengers, Osborn began recruiting new members in his favor due to the resignation of most of the original team.

Confirmed members of the team will feature Mimic, Weapon Omega, Professor X, Emma Frost, Daken, Namor, Cloak and Dagger handpicked by Osborn for his own criminal agenda.

Daken is off of Romulus' chain and he's out there in the world. He's able to get his own plan going and establish his own base of power and his own alliances. Yet, whenever he wants to—with a couple of surgical strikes—he can disappear again, and essentially, Wolverine will be left holding the bag because as far as the general populace of the Marvel U knows, this is Wolverine on the Dark Avengers.
